Things to do in Devon with kids and a dog

We are off to South Devon in August, staying at Challaborough Bay.

Can anybody recommend some days out for two kids 10 and 13, and a rather boisterous labrador.

Thankyou

Tons of stuff to do on Dartmoor:
National Trusts - Greenway, Coleton Fishacre, Buckland Abbey, Cotehele, Saltram House, Lydford Gorge, Castle Drogo.
Halton Forest
River Dart Country Park
Seaton Tramway
Totnes Castle

Dartmouth
Bigbury
Kingsbridge
Plymouth

Have you been there before OP?
The B road down to that site is quite tricky to navigate.

Thanks for the replies.

We have read the reviews and the comments about the roads on trip advisor

Thankfully we are are used to travelling on similar roads near to where we live. I

That's good 😊
If I'd have read the reviews beforehand, I wouldn't have arrived after dark. Thankfully I didn't have to reverse up the road in the pitch black.
It's a lovely site with a nice beach and an even better one -Bigbury-around the next cove. One half of Bigbury beach -the right side facing the sea-dogs are welcome and can go off lead. Our dog spent most of his time running in and out of the waves there. There's a 13th century pub -the Pilchard-on Burgh island-dogs are welcome in the beer garden there. No dogs are allowed on Challaborough beach though.

Salcombe is also nearby and Slapton sands.

Seaton tramway has to be done
Tarr steps is nice for a walk and a cup of tea/snack
Watermeet (depending on age of kids as it's a long walk if you go to from the sea to the NT tea room)
Bicton park is great with kids and dogs

You’ll have a lovely time in Devon. It’s a fabulous holiday playground and the area you’re visiting is so beautiful.

A word if caution -
If you go up onto Dartmoor, keep your dog on a lead and don’t use a disposable BBQ.

Unleashed dogs are a scourge on Dartmoor for chasing livestock and in some cases it’s fatal. Sheep lurk in the bracken where sometimes they can’t be seen so don’t make assumptions there’s no stock around. Farmers also have the legal right to shoot a rogue dog so don’t chance it.

Disposable BBQ’s are lethal in the current drought conditions so best avoided.

Have a lovely break and hopefully you’ll visit Devon again.

Park in the NT Bolberry Down car park (not far from Salcombe) and walk along the path to Soar Mill Cove. It's not too far but well worth it for a nice little sandy beach which is sheltered and ok for dogs to be on. There are loads of good rocky bits to scramble on too. We only discovered it this year and and it's a fabulous little spot.

Both of those are really great. Hidden valley is really special I promise. To enter you drive through hundreds of huge Xmas trees. Take a picnic it has a lush marquee for picnics.

Quay west is Paignton is also great it's a water park with flumes.

Butterfly and otters at buckfastleigh and steam trains.
