London travel question

Hi - wondering if anyone knowledgable about London could help me with a question!

I’m taking a relative to an event in London but they aren’t able to walk great distances. If we were arriving by train at Euston, how easy / far is it to walk to the Northern Line platform? If we can get there, we are sorted!

thanks!

Oh, just found another possibility - if we arrived my train at Marylebone, would it be easy to walk to the platforms for the Bakerloo line?

Tfl website says "If you need step-free access onto the train, use the accessibility features of the TfL Go app or select 'accessibility and other travel options' in Journey Planner, and select 'I need step-free access from street to the train'."

Where are you ulitmately trying to get to from Euston?

From the train platform at Euston it could be 100m to get to the top of the lift/escalator that takes you down to the tube station. From there you walk another 20-30 feet or so through the ticket hall and barriers to the top of an escalator for the northern line, then down a corridor and to another escalator for the northern line. There might also be some stairs, I can't quite recall.

Using TfL Go for step-free journeys

Plan your step-free journey in London. Check platform-level information and find Tube access points. See our short guide to using the TfL Go app

It's a shorter walk from train platform at Marylebone to bakerloo platform than Euston train platform to norther line. Much smaller station.

Needmorelego · 17/06/2023 10:55

Marylebone is a much smaller station and the entrance to the Bakerloo Line is right inside the train station just past the train barriers.
Much less stressy than Euston. However there is no lift down just escalators.
If you are ok with escalators then go for Marylebone. Euston is a horrible busy station.

Agree with others. Euston is a pig of a station to navigate (four Northern platforms!) a significant walk and no lifts. Avoid.

Where are you going on the Northern line? I'm thinking a bus might suit your relative better?

WakeUpSpacedOut · 17/06/2023 11:47

Thanks for the pointers! I thought Marylebone might be easier so it’s good to have it confirmed!

We are travelling to Embankment and our destination is very close to there so the walk should be ok.

The mobility difficulty flares so it might be not too bad on the day, but I’m trying to cover as many options as possible!

Hi OP, I was looking for similar information for my DM a while ago but we ended up going by car in the end. During my research I came across an app called Passenger Assistance. You can use this to book wheelchair etc assistance in the station and they will meet you from the train. My plan was to get them to bring us a wheelchair that we could then use to go to the taxi rank. Obviously, we didn't actually use it so I'm not sure how successful it would be but it certainly looked like a good option.

That’s useful to know! Thank you!

How are they with steps? Embankment isn’t step-free.

WakeUpSpacedOut · 17/06/2023 22:08

If they are feeling OK, the steps should be alright - as long as my research is correct and it’s only about 25 steps? Perhaps a bus from Marylebone might be wiser though (or, if it comes to it, a taxi).

Would a cab be an option in case of a particularly bad flare up?

WakeUpSpacedOut · 18/06/2023 19:14

We will definitely take a cab if needed.

The one note of caution about Marylebone is platforms 5-6. Aagh. I've just had a hip replacement and it's a bit of a walk to the barriers from those platforms, then down into the underground part.

Embankment is an easy station to exit whereas I find Charing Cross can be a long walk too.
