Newquay/Perranporth

Hello.

At the beginning of July we're off to Cornwall for a week. We'll be staying in our tourer caravan on the Haven site just outside Perranporth.

The site has its own beach, I believe, but from what I've read it accessible by a steep track. I fully intend to go down there for a little explore, but I wondered if anyone could recommend a lovely beach nearby that's more easily accessible and close to a car park.

I'll have DH and two older teens with me, but we also have autistic DS (3) who sometimes decides on a whim that he doesn't wish to walk any further and has to be carried. We have one of those festival trollies but I like an elaborate beach set up with chairs, a windbreak, parasol, cool box, cricket set, rug, buckets & spades, etc.

If anyone could recommend somewhere suitable I'd appreciate it.

Also, are there any unmissable trips in Cornwall? We have National Trust and English Heritage memberships and have booked visits to Tintagel Castle and St Michael's Mount.

I would also like to get some fresh fish from somewhere and cook it on the barbecue back at camp, so we're looking for suggestions of where to buy fish.

Oh, and any recommendations for well-priced cream teas and Cornish Pasties also welcome!

Thanks

We stayed at this Haven site and the path down to the beach is really steep, the site was great though.

You can access the same beach by driving in to Perranporth and parking up, there a lovely restaurant with outside seating overlooking the beach which is well worth a visit.

St Ives was beautiful, as was St Michaels Mount. lands end was a tad disappointing.

Mawgan Porth beach isn’t far and has a car park at the back of the shops which are right by the beach. I like Llanhydroc for a good NT trip. I also like Carnewas which is also NT so free parking. The cliff top views are spectacular. Enjoy

Holywell bay is the next beach along and has parking available as does Crantock. Lovely sand dunes

Lovely. Thank you very much.

Porth beach as well if you are heading into Newquay as well.
I always use Pauline's cafe in Newquay. It is about £15.00 per person for afternoon tea.

I love fistral beach in Newquay. If I remember correctly they have a beach bar on the beach and the sun sets directly above the sea, it's a beautiful sight, and you can walk up on the cliffs either side, it's also perfect for surfing 🥰

If you don’t mind driving for half an hour or so, Porthcothan is a good beach. The car park is just behind and council run so no rip off prices and fines. You might be able to get fresh fish in Padstow, 10 mins from Porthcothan, too.

We're off on Monday. I've taken screenshots of the recommendations here because apparently there's no signal on the site.

Weather doesn't look great, but there isn't a, lot we can do about that!

It’s a really lovely site for children OP.

We live locally but my parents still used to book a caravan there every summer to take their grandchildren, the DC still talk about it 😊

Might be too late now but the best pasties in Newquay are sold in the butchers on Chester Road. The best pasties in perranporth are also from the butchers there.

The best place for a cream tea nearby is the Fern Pit Cafe in Newquay, it has the most amazing view over the Gannel and Crantock beach and will close permanently at the end of this season. They have parking and a path down to Crantock beach with a bridge or ferry depending on the tide to take you accross the Gannel. they also have a hut where you can buy fresh lobster and crab.
