I need to go from Kings-cross train station to Piccadilly and back.
I used to lived in London ( 1999-2010) many moons ago and to be honest I completely forgot how to even get on Tube!
Do you still use Oyster, are these still cards or now digital on the phone, do I need some deposit, How do you scan it on tube station to get in?
Im only will be going there and back to King cross to catch train back ( out of London)
What would be the fastest way on tube and also the cheapest for me?

Use a debit card to get on and off Piccadilly line at King's Cross. Buses are cheaper but obviously take longer check tfl website journey planner for info

SpikyHatePotato · 12/06/2023 13:58

Manchester Piccadilly or Piccadilly Circus?

Alsobeyondshit · 12/06/2023 13:59

10 minutes on the tube. Piccadilly line. Use your contactless debit card.

King’s Cross Victoria line to green park - you can tap in on the gate reader with contactless and out the other side. City mapper app is very good for directions in London

@SpikyHatePotato Piccadilly circus in London

@Andywarholswig so I don’t need Oyster card anymore, would my contactless debit card do this now? Is there a capping? I will presumably stay in zone 1..
Wow how times changed since I went to London.

Yes there is a daily cap - details on TfL website look for pay as you go fares. Expect two singles in zone 1 will be below that.

Yes, debit card is fine, make sure you use the same card each time and tap in and out for each journey. The cap only comes into place when you do a number of journeys which take you over the daily limit, otherwise you are charged for each journey. It might be a bit cheaper to buy a return ticket at KX if you are sure you are only doing the return journey.

( I am assuming you can still buy tickets from ticket machines! Haven’t used one for years!)

Confused about peak and off peak. Is there a difference between Oyster and contactless payment?
What is Oyster off peak then, screen only shows peak time for oyster..

I think peak and off peak is the same for both, it’s just the way it is laid out.

piglet81 · 12/06/2023 14:20

No need for an Oyster card - just tap your debit/credit card or Apple Pay on the yellow readers on the ticket barriers. Tap in and out even if the barriers are open, so the system knows how much to charge you at the end of the day.

NB use the same payment method all day to avoid being overcharged.

From King’s Cross, take the Piccadilly line (dark blue) westbound - 5 stops to Piccadilly Circus.

Thanks everyone.

You can buy paper tickets still but they are the cash fare so more expensive and the added faff.
