Luxury hotels that at least tolerate kids in the Cotswolds (not calcot as we need somewhere where you can walk into a town/ village)

Hi

I'm looking for a luxurious but child-tolerant (!) hotel in the Cotswolds that is within walking distance of a village or town.

Calcot would work fine but you have to drive everywhere from there.

It's for us with an almost 3 year old, and some older rellies without any other kids. Ds is normally quite well behaved in hotels/ eats anything so it needn't be totally kiddy friendly e.g. no need for kids menu in restaurant.

(ha bet ds turns into monster in the next few months before we go and I will eat my words!!)

I have been to Cowley and liked it too but it really does need to be somewhere in a town - my granny is coming and she wants to be able to get around and mooch around easily without the car.

we like Chester House in Bourton but it's not quite luxury. Is very nice and extremely family friendly though, rampaging toddler / wailing newborns not a problem.

The Dial House in Bourton is truly luxurious but I don't know how child-friendly they are.

we stayed at www.therectoryhotel.com in the cotswolds recently for a weekend. It is in a village but we drove around though. It was really lovely. The staff were very helpful and friendly and they were brilliant with our dc's (4 and 1) They have travel cots and those zed beds (sp?) They gave us a monitor so we went down to the bar which was lovely and drank lots of wine and played scrabble! I think they have a few rooms big enough to accomodate children - we stayed in the Leckhampton room which looks out on the walled garden and was really lovely plus lots of room for the lo's to play.

the dial house wonderful. i have eaten there with a baby and friends ate there with their well-behaved pre-schoolers. but not sure about sleeping there.

What about the Cotswold House? I've always thought it looks v nice, though expensive. But it's in the middle of a nice little town.

Or Barnsley House? Both look lovely although no idea about their children policy

Cotswold House

Barnsley House

Dial House looked perfect - had already spotted it but they don't allow kids!

Cotswold House looks like a good possibility.

There are a few in Malmesbury and Tetbury which are both lovely to walk around.

www.oldbellhotel.com/ are always kind to the kids and yet is still v nice adulty kind of place

chonky · 28/02/2008 21:51

Barnsley House is lovely, but maybe a bit too stuffy for kids.

The Priory Inn in Tetbury is very child friendly, and right in the middle of Tetbury. Not quite as swanky as Calcot/ Cowlet, but certainly would tick your other boxes. Depends whether you are prepared to slum it (relatively talking of course ))

Inn

Priory Inn, Tetbury

hey - this is exactly what I am looking for too - but need somewhere close to Oxford. Priory looks fab but just too far. My horrible in-laws won't put us up (charming!) and we're coming so their darling son can finally pick up his degree from Oxford so forced to shell out for a hotel - all very well but if we're going to do that with kids in tow, it needs to be somewhere we can actually escape for a good meal and wine. I refuse to pay to sit in a dark room trying not to wake them up and hate soulless Travelodges! All info very gratefully received....

What about the Randolph in Oxford.
