Hiking Weekend in UK

Hello
We are thinking of doing a bit of a hiking weekend early June in the UK and wondered if anyone had any recommendations - Hoping for a nice walk 3-4 hrs per day with nice scenery a few pubs and a B&B. We live in Herts so would be great to go somewhere under 3 hours away
TIA

I’d suggest the Peak District, although to give you specific recommendations I need to know what type of walking you like. The Peaks are basically split into two areas. The Dark Peaks (north) consist of rocky challenging mountainous-style walks (e.g. Mam Tor, Kinder Scout and Bamford Edge) and miles of moorland. The White offers the Derbyshire Dales (more gentle countryside with riverside walks dotted with postcard villages). If you’re not yet sure, Bakewell would be a good base with easy access to both.

Elan Valley in Wales is stunning. Really lovely hiking round a series of reservoirs (hillier than it sounds!).

Or the Brecon Beacons (not called that any more, but you know where I mean.)

Or the Cotswolds. Broadway, Stow etc - lovely walking around there.

I’d say the Peak District too. I love the Hope Valley in particular.

Exmoor would get my vote.

You could follow some of the coastal path - areas of it are stunning.

Google maps says journey from Herts is 3 hours, but then I don't know where in Herts you are!

However, the Sandstone Trail is considered one of the best middle distance walks in the UK. Its a lovely mix of open hills, sandstone cliffs, old deep forests, fields and a short 3 mile bit on the canal.

Welcome - Sandstone Trail

I think Peak District might be a winner as it's a bit closer than the others

Alone the costal path. Start in illfracombe. It’s absolutely beautiful. Plus you could use taxis/bus and still stay in the same accommodation

The South Downs Way across Hampshire and Sussex is lovely (and likely to be quite sunny).

North Devon/Somerset - exmoor (especially along its rivers) and edged by a lovely section of the coast path.

We live on the edge of the Peaks. I'm not a fan. North Wales or Lakes get my vote.
Peaks are just so barren from sheep farming.
