Help please - stuck in London on rail strike day so need hotel recommendations

Hi all, I have booked a show and rail travel to London on what has now been announced to be one of the May rail strike days, so will now need to travel down the day before and stay two nights in a hotel.

I’m going round in circles looking for a nice, reasonably priced hotel (less than £250 per night) in a safe, touristy part of London.

Any suggestions please oh wise MNetters?

I used premier inn hub at Goodge Street. I was very impressed.

Thanks, I was looking at the Leicester Square premier inn but that has some quite bad reviews which is unusual for a premier inn.

There is a premier inn hub near Covent Garden and a premier inn at Southbank County Hall

Premier Inn Archway

There are quite a few cheapies around Bloomsbury - Tavistock square, Judd St etc which are very central

The Premier Inn hubs are all new and this in better nick than a lot of the older places. It might be cost effective to book somewhere outside central London and get a taxi in the evening.

Premier Inn County Hall is quite nice and a great location.

I like the Malmaison or Montcalm

I've stayed at the Premier Inn next to the Tower. Good spot for tube and lovely walk along the river too.

christmastreefarm · 06/05/2023 21:07

How far out do you live? Could you just drive to the end of a tube line?

That’s an option but I thought the car parks near the tube station will be crazy busy on the strike days

Leicester Square hotels are bound to be noisy and an annoyance to get in and out of, hence bad reviews.

Strand palace is usually fine, although more expensive since it was renovated.
Lastminute often has good deals on hotels around the British museum, but quieter at night but quick walk to the west end theatres.

Or as others have mentioned the premier inn hubs.

blahblonk · 06/05/2023 21:14

There are also travelodges in Finsbury Park and Manor House which are cheaper than the central ones, not central, but both right next to quick, direct tube from west end

Firkinhavinalaugh · 06/05/2023 21:20

Look at pubs with rooms, stayed in some nice central ones and they will be in your budget :)

Another vote for Premier Hub. I use the Covent Garden one. Genius.

Thanks everyone

Try The Bloomsbury Hotel near Tottenham Court Road.
