A week in Brighton

Dd17 wants to visit this summer and I have booked a week. Travelling from Scotland and can’t decide if I should drive with an overnight each way or just fly.
I can’t decide if there will be enough to do/wander about to interest her or if I’ll need the car to visit other places. Don’t particularly want to hire a car there too many times as the extra insurance is always £££.Apart from the obvious day to London what would others recommend

There's plenty to occupy in Brighton and public transport is pretty good to get around. There's the Royal Pavilion, the i360, sealife centre, the Lanes and North Laines shopping areas as well as the more traditional town centre shops, the pier, not sure if the Upside Down House is still there, there's a big zip line near the pier but I don't know much about that as not been on it. There's always shows on at the Brighton Centre, the Corn Exchange, the Dome, plus loads of small venues. Loads of great places to eat. You'll have a great time!

If you want to branch out, you can get the train to Lewes, Eastbourne( which I actually prefer) or Hastings very easily.

My other recommendation is Rottingdean which is a cute seaside place, the easiest way to get there is actually to hire bikes, which might be fun, it's a beautiful ride.

You won't need a car. The public transport links are very good and driving/ parking in Brighton is a pain.

You'll need to book in advance, would recommend the Beach Box Sauna, or there is a smaller one in Worthing (cannot remember the name). You can have a dip in the sea in between saunas.

Fly. You won't need a car, in fact it would be a pain. There's plenty to do in Brighton but yes you can easily do a day in London too. What sort of thing does your DD like to do?

Parking in Brighton is an expensive nightmare!! Bus services are great. Loads to do in Brighton especially in the summer. Get a bus that takes you along above the cliff towards Newhaven. Very spectacular and Rottingdean is really pretty with a fab cafe on the beach .
Get a bus or train to Lewes. Really lovely and quaint there.Beachy head is beautiful notso bothered about Eastbourne . Enjoy .

Thanks for the advice although as flights are coming in at nearly £400 driving and paying for parking will be considerably less. I’ll hold out for train fares when they are released

Where are you coming from ?

Neurodiversitydoctor · 09/05/2023 21:03

This doesn't look too bad you can probably get a better deal with a railcard.

Sorry price didn't come through £85

Cuckmere Haven and the bus over to Eastbourne is lovely but I'm guessing your daughter wants shopping and nightlife rather than a pretty view and a nice walk!
