Help me find a nice hotel in the Cotswolds/Bath to escape my teenagers!

I've saved up a little nest egg to escape with my DH to a hotel for two nights in August to escape two very ratty teenagers (who will stay with grandparents). Looking for somewhere in Cotswolds or Bath that ideally does not attract kids for obvious reasons and has a swimming pool and isn't extortionate. Would be grateful for any recommendations, thanks

Charingworth Manor? I don't remember seeing any kids, but I guess it depends on the school holidays.

When you say Cotswolds do you mean town (e.g. Cheltenham, Broadway etc) or countryside? Please don’t say Bourton on the Water which is our equivalent of Disneyland without the rides.

Lygon arms in broadway

Homewood park is lovely

stickybear · 30/04/2023 20:11

Dormy House? I've never been but it looks so beautiful Grin one day!!

However... I would point you to the recent thread about how all hotels are much more expensive than they used to be, so I hope your nest egg is pretty big, sadly.

Whatley Manor is gorgeous

MrsSamR · 30/04/2023 20:14

Also Lucknam Park
The Pig near Bath

Ahh this is great, thanks, spent ages internet scrolling with little success. We don’t like far from the Cotswolds thankfully so know the area reasonably well so will check out these helpful suggestions. Any more, keep them coming. Although my best egg is no more than 300 quid all in so may be in for a nasty shock 🙄

The Rectory in Crudwell is beautiful, but the swimming pool is outside..!

Fairylights7 · 30/04/2023 20:25

Alas I think my budget is too small :(

Finding somewhere with a pool in the summer for £150 a night in mainstream Cotswolds will be very difficult. Have you thought about the northern edge of the Cotswolds around Bredon Hill which tends to be slightly cheaper because its not that well known but imo is actually one of the most beautiful parts and is within easy driving distance of most Cotswolds sights for day trips. In the interests of full disclosure I should declare a bias here because I live in a small hamlet on Bredon Hill itself.

This is just random googling, not experience, but Cricklade House and Spa looks like you can have two nights for about £200 if you pick the right days.

Chepstow Marriot has a pool. And there's a doubletree in Cheltenham

Neither of them are the most amazing hotels in the world but should meet your budget. Not sure about august tho!

stickybear · 01/05/2023 09:51

Bowood hotel and spa might be worth a look, just outside of the Cotswolds proper but a lovely area and easy access to Bath via the train from Chippenham

regenerista · 01/05/2023 10:06

How about looking at the Malvern Spa? Not the Cotswolds but not too far away.

EmpeBe · 01/05/2023 18:17

Chepstow is Wye Valley not Cotswolds.I would not recommend the Double Tree in Charlton Kings. It doubles (no pun intended) as a local gym and as such is always very busy.

Do you definitely want a hotel? I've just stayed at a gorgeous little Airbnb in central Bath that I would recommend. It was really reasonably priced.

Sounds lovely, could you possibly share details? X

It's this one. It is small but the location is amazing. Off site parking is really easy to use it's only a 7min walk away. The stairs are steep up toward the bedroom but it was the perfect size for 2 adults. Lovely & clean

That Bath Airbnb is near some great restaurants. Parking will add an extra £17/day to your bills.

Have a look on the Secret Escapes website as they have quite a few offers for Cotswold stays.

Cotswold Water Park looks to be comfortably within budget (though I have a hunch that I looked at staying there with my then toddler).

Sundays are usually a lot cheaper (and watch out for wedding receptions on Saturdays).

Have fun.

mac1974 · 02/05/2023 09:49

We parked at Charlotte street it was £35 for 2 nights so not awful

Stillwearingskinnies · 02/05/2023 09:58

Agree with pp, Whatley Manor is amazing

bureaucracygaaah · 02/05/2023 10:17

Another vote for Whatley Manor, went there for my wife's 40th and it was amazing (and don't think there were any kids there). Just had a look on their website, 2 nights in August would be about £850 though, hope your nest egg is chunky!
