I have half a day in Stratford Upon Avon with my DH and 6 year old. What would you recommend doing? Already been to MAD - brilliant btw. Was thinking Tudor World, Shakespeares birthplace, Anne Hathaways Cottage. Any other recommendations?

If the weather is nice, boat ride and butterfly farm

Easterfunbun · 10/04/2023 21:34

Nice boat ride with an ice cream.

EwwSprouts · 10/04/2023 21:36

Mary Ardens Farm has more for your DS than Anne Hathaways Cottage.

CheeseMcKnees · 10/04/2023 21:37

Butterfly farm, walking distance from centre and it’s totally awesome

Easterfunbun · 10/04/2023 21:40

Shudders at the butterfly farm. Monstrous things 🤦‍♀️ and fucking massive landing on you. No tar.

AgnesNaismith · 10/04/2023 21:41

There is a lovely boat ride you can book lunch on - nice and relaxed.

The fish and chip shop overlooking the river is also really good!!

See if there are any shows on at the theatre, the seating and performances make it a completely different experience.

CJCreggsGoldfish · 10/04/2023 21:41

Boat ride. DS is still traumatised from the butterfly farm - as soon as he stepped foot in there one flew straight into his face…I think we got round it in record time!

whatsyourpoison12 · 10/04/2023 21:42

leave!

UnsureSchool32 · 10/04/2023 21:43

-ferris wheel
-boat ride
-ice cream
a walk up to the church and back down

Unbridezilla · 10/04/2023 21:43

Agree with Mary Arden's Farm if you have a car: it's in nearby Wilmcote. Which is a cute little village itself, although the pub isn't very welcoming.

Butterfly farm is nice, if they wouldn't mind them flapping about and there are alligators there too now.

The big wheel is up for the summer if you want to see the view and there is a great kids playground if you walk along the old tramway away from the butterfly farm, just past the tennis courts

Unbridezilla · 10/04/2023 21:45

If none if those suit, and you aren't restricted to Stratford, Hatton Adventure World is about 15mins away by car

Needmorelego · 10/04/2023 21:45

Apparently the butterfly place has a crocodile now 🐊

AccidentallyFabulous · 10/04/2023 21:47

Send DH and DC off to do their own thing and go to the theatre.

bigbluebus · 10/04/2023 21:47

We hired a rowing boat and also visited Anne Hathaway's cottage.

Unbridezilla · 10/04/2023 21:47

Oh and actually, you could get the train to Wilmcote from Stratford for MA farm, it takes about 5 mins, but I think they only go every hour. You can walk down the canal tow path to get there, but it's a long way thee6and back for a 6yo

GuyFawkesDay · 10/04/2023 21:49

Butterfly farm and the playground at the Recreation Ground which is next door. There's a coffee/ice cream trailer at the Rec Ground too.

SmileyPaella · 10/04/2023 21:51

RSC rooftop restaurant - they do a child's afternoon tea too

Hibernatalie · 10/04/2023 21:53

Warwick Castle, hands down. If I wasn’t with the 6 year old - definitely Shakespeare’s birthplace.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 10/04/2023 21:55

Spend far too long in traffic while trying to gth out Angry

Since covid Mary Arden's is no longer open to the public.

VladsPants · 10/04/2023 21:57

Mary Arden’s Farm isn’t open to visitors these days. Just for special events and school/group visits.

Whendidigetsoold · 10/04/2023 22:02

Brunch at Boston Tea Party
Ice cream at Hoorays

A theatre tour

SweetSakura · 10/04/2023 22:14

Ahh I came on to suggest the MAD museum Grin

my son loved the canal boat ride at that age.

IScreamMonday · 10/04/2023 22:17

I'd go to the theatre if the timings work. If not, a nostalgic chilled afternoon down by the river

imayhavelostmymarbles · 10/04/2023 22:20

Agree for anyone else, MAD museum is great evwn for older ones
