Where to eat in Edinburgh

DD 8 and I are off to Edinburgh in a couple of weeks and looking for some nice places to eat.
She doesn't like spice and is lactose intolerant so pizza is out. She does like buffet style restaurants though.
Does anyone have any recommendations please?

@Cheesecakeandvodka oh fab we've eaten at the cosmo in Southampton before and she loved it so that's definitely going on the list

Badger & Co is a fun Wind in the Willows inspired restaurant.
Stack & Still does amazing sweet and savoury build-your-own pancakes and they even have dairy-free pancakes.

Are you going to the castle? The afternoon tea is lovely there

Snuzzle · 16/03/2023 20:25

@Fivemoreminutes1 they look fantastic thank you and DD will love that she can get dairy free pancakes

Makars! Always go there when we're in Edinburgh

BeStrongLittleRodney · 16/03/2023 20:30

Maki and Ramen is nice in St James Quarter

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 16/03/2023 20:37

We loved Makars too!

Cosmo is the last place in Edinburgh I'd recommend!
Pizza Express and local Italian chain Vittorias offer vegan cheese so pizza is an option for the lactose intolerant. Or they do pasta dishes that are dairy free.
Bonnie & Wild in the St James Quarter has lots of little food stands and the young folk seem to be raving about it locally. Salerno pizza opposite was really nice and they do a vegan cheese option.
Cafe Andaluz for tapas
Berties for fish & chips
Whiski Rooms does a kids menu and Whiski Bar on the Royal Mile does good pub grub and allows kids in early
Howies is an Edinburgh institution but i'm not sure if they do a kids menu.

There's a couple of Argentinian BBQ places that are worth a try if you are big meat eaters, it was a bit much for me to be honest. Fazenda.

@emmathedilemma can I ask what's wrong with cosmo please? We loved the one in Southampton and I thought they'd all be similar

maybe it's just not my kind of place but it seems like mass produced, pile it high feed them cheap sort of food IMO and I've no idea why you'd want a carvery mixed with a curry!

Snuzzle · 17/03/2023 17:20

@emmathedilemma I must admit I'm not keen on piling my plate high and mixing different foods, I'm much more likely to just get small portions of say 3 Asian dishes and then add rice or noodles.
DD loves to mix and match though and it's quite a good way of getting her to try new foods. The dessert choices are a big plus for her as well Grin

I’m from Edinburgh and would say Cosmo is not somewhere I’d go. It’s pretty poor quality.
