Is there a cafe in there?

Just wondering as once we are in can we get lunch or should we before?

Yes! Ta-da:

here

RebornRebound · 26/02/2023 10:10

Yes and the food is good!

pizzaHeart · 26/02/2023 10:13

We went before Covid but I remember the food was nice.

Cyclingforcake · 26/02/2023 10:15

Just don’t forget to pre-book tickets. We didn’t realise that weren’t able to get in.

doadeer · 26/02/2023 10:16

Yes, they tend to have pretty nice cake! Don't forget to book tickets in advance

SvartePetter · 26/02/2023 10:22

Yes, but it is normally super busy. If you are going to the wonderlab on the 4th floor there is a ice cream cafe with a very small selection of sandwiches outside, but plenty of space for eating a packed lunch.

Golly, do you have to book for a normal visit? Or are you talking about special exhibitions? Haven’t been since the grandchildren were young. No booking then and I used to go regularly when I was growing up a short walk from S. Kensington.

There's also a large area for eating your own food as other people have mentioned. I work on the same road and whenever we go to the museums with my child we buy food elsewhere (there's a big Waitrose, or Tesco Express, by Gloucester Road station, which I'd recommend using anyway if you're going in school holidays/at weekends as they often shut South Ken due to overcrowding) and eat it in the quiet areas rather than queuing with everyone else.

Doveyouknow · 26/02/2023 10:33

You do need to pre book free tickets - it started in the pandemic and they never got rid of it. The cafe is fine - standard museum food - but is expensive and busy. If you bring your own lunch there is a picnic area in the basement along with a place to get coffee. There is a Waitrose at Gloucester rd tube where you can get sandwiches.

coffeecookie · 26/02/2023 10:43

I pre booked my cafe order as well.

Cafe was a hub fight for seats though, people arguing over them. Quite fun to watch!

Otherwise just down the road there's a few cafes near South Ken station including a Pret you can just pop into.

coffeecookie · 26/02/2023 10:44

Bun fight not hub!

Cyclingforcake · 26/02/2023 13:19

Yes you do have to pre-book for normal entry. As we discovered last week there is very little you can do spontaneously in London anymore. I suspect half term didn’t help but nearly every museum was pre-book only even if it was free (and the British Museum was closed). Total change from when I lived there 10years ago. Although I suspect then I would have avoided South Ken in half term week like the plague!

holierthanthou73 · 26/02/2023 13:20

Don’t people look on website’s anymore 🤷🏻‍♀️

LIZS · 26/02/2023 13:45

Yes but we find the V and A one cheaper!
