Hi All, We're planning a day trip to York tomorrow. What are your must sees/things to do with 3DDs aged 10-14. Wouldn't say they get overly excited about architecture but would like a little if possible, more activity based really. TIA. Also places for lunch Smile

If the weather is good, the self drive boats you can hire are great fun.

The Jorvik Viking Festival is on this week little-vikings.co.uk/jorvik-viking-festival-2023/
Climb the Minster. There’s also a light snow on at the moment
yorkminster.org/whats-on/event/colour-and-light/
Walk the walls
Do the cauldron experience at The Potions Cauldron www.thepotionscauldron.com/experience You can also buy Butter Beer and Dragon Eggs, see their Hogwarts Castle made out of lego, choose your house with their Sorting Hat etc…
Go for afternoon tea at Betty’s
Chocolate Story is really good.

The best/fun places for lunch are:
Double Dutch pancake house
Plush Cafe
Cresci Pizzeria

Everything mentioned on here already. Plus my kids loved the armoury shop on Stonegate for some reason!

It's a fab city, you'll have a great time.

It’s the Viking Festival this week. This might mean Jorvik is a bit busy but you can go and see the encampment on Parliament Street.

How about Castle museum and a ghost tour? The Bloody Tour of York with mad Alice has been recommended to us though not actually done it.

Castle museum is great. You can easily spend half a day in there. I've been many times.

Viking centre is okay. I've never been that much of a fan and think it's a bit overpriced, but it's popular enough.

York dungeon my kids found a bit scary. The railway museum is fascinating if you're into trains. The boat trips and the hire boats are fun. The minster isn't too bad, especially going up to the top, though it's a bit pricey. Chocolate story is good. There are sweet shops and Harry Potter ships in the Shambles and a good open air for market behind the Shambles.

There are two gaming cafes as well. One in Gillygate and the other at the end of Coney Street, near the bridge, if they like playing board / card games. The Dig is also good as an activity based thing. Obviously there's the walls to walk around and there's an art gallery (bit dull) and museum and nice gardens

Personally I think the castle museum is the best thing for kids. They tend to have little competitions for kids and there is plenty they can interact with.

Food wise, depends what you like. There's plenty. I would recommend Licc if you like ice cream. It's delicious and there's loads to choose.

I know York very well, so PM me if you want any specific information.

Oh and there's a cat cafe if you'd like cake with cats running around your feet.
