Gees is lovely--in an old glasshouse all lit up with little sparkly lights. Cherwell Boathouse, Quod, Pierre Victoire, Brasserie Blanc all good. Try the rooftop restaurant at the Ashmolean for fabulous views, the Vaults for lunch or coffee, covered market cafes are all great. The Bodleian Weston Library cafe is also a good place in the centre of town for a break with excellent loos! The Randolph used to do an excellent if expensive afternoon tea, but I haven't been for ages since its refurbishment so don't know if it's still as good.

Chang Mai for delicious Thai in an original medieval building

I'd second Gees for brunch. It has a lovely atmosphere. It has recently been revamped

We also really liked Victors. The menu is interesting and the cocktails are great. Less keen on the location on top of the shopping centre though. And there is a branch of the Ivy on the Main Street.

The Old Parsonage do a great afternoon tea, their dining area is lovely

Raoul's for cocktails.
Quod for lunch.

Pompette in Summertown was very good if French brasserie style food floats your boat. They have a very nice looking private room upstairs.

Not sure how good they are for cocktails - were some on the list, but it's not a cocktail bar.

CannonCaboodle · 01/02/2023 19:59

Shamelessly placemarking!

macshoto · 02/02/2023 17:26

Of course, if money is no object (lunch menu is £205/dinner £230, before wine and service), the place to eat is Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons - a short drive outside Oxford.

Prices reflect its long history of holding 2 Michelin stars... and the great service and food that go with that. Lovely gardens to wander around, too.

Jungfraujoch · 02/02/2023 22:11

I’m very lucky to have eaten at Le Manoir a few years back - it was amazing!
