London - flying to Gatwick

Hello!

Will be flying into Gatwick later in the year, and will then need to get to County Hall by the London Eye.

What's the best way to go? I don't think we'd want to get a taxi - so probably train and then tube?

How do you pay? Do I need a visitors oyster? Can you use them on the overground as well?

Haven't been to London for many years - and used to get the train to Paddington and then get a day travel card for the tubes - never been to Gatwick so will I get lost getting to the trains?! Or is it simple?

I know once I actually get to the hotel I'll be fine wandering around as hoping things will still be familiar and I'll remember directions, but nervous to get there from the airport!

The great thing about London travel is that you can never know it all! The other day I had a route planned in my head but did a quick check on TfL which offered a slightly different option, which was much better, using an overground line I hadn’t even considered using. After meeting my friend for lunch I had to go on somewhere, and my friend just happened to know the perfect bus route. Happiness ensued.

Thanks everyone, I'm sure I'll be able to make it from the airport now, without worrying! Seems much easier than I imagined, and if I get too confused once there I'll be sure to ask someone.
