Staying at Manchester airport for trip to Manchester

Is this reasonable? Looking at the premier inn at Manchester Airport, they have a car park but looks a bit away from the actual airport.

Think it's about 6miles into Manchester so could drive or get a taxi into the city for shopping sightseeing and food.

I think this will be fine and the rooms are reasonable hence wanting to stay there.

Does anyone know the area or done the same thing before? Would this be ok?

Where exactly is the premier inn which area?

KangarooKenny · 24/12/2022 07:24

An airport hotel is noisy, is there anything at the Trafford Centre ?

bestbits · 24/12/2022 07:37

The hotel is on Runger Lane.

Not fussed about noise as we will be in the city for the most part and just need somewhere to sleep for the night.

We usually stay around Salford/media city, good tram links to Trafford centre or city centre.

Have stayed in city centre before as well but prefer Salford.

Have stayed in both of these before. Were both grand, the Plaza nicer but we preferred location of holiday inn (also because the lads are Man Utd fans).

It’s a really long way out from Manchester, 10 miles, and can be a very slow drive. The parking is charged for. There are better options if you want somewhere cheap. Prestwich is another option on a tramline that tends to have cheap rooms.

The hotel is pretty meh very typical airport hotel. Nothing to do once you get back to the hotel. I personally wouldn’t pick to stay there unless I was getting an early flight

Abraxan · 24/12/2022 07:48

Ringer lane isn't walkable to the airport iirr so you couldn't use the trains there.

It's not overly close to Manchester itself so you'd need to take into account cost of taxi or parking in the centre compared to The savings made in the hotel.

It's doable but won't be overly convenient for you.

swedex · 24/12/2022 07:49

I'd try and find a hotel near to a tram stop and then you get into the city easily. Altrincham is very close to the airport and has a few hotels and a tram stop where you get into Manchester

BarbaraofSeville · 24/12/2022 07:50

If you stay at the airport it might be best getting the train to the city, but as the airport is vast, it could be a long walk from the hotel.

Or I think some of the outer tram stops can be used as a park and ride?

I also don't know about how well the soundproofing is at the hotel, but I'd assume it is better than we were woken by early morning flights when we decided to stay in the long stay carpark in our camper van before a holiday once.

Staying somewhere like Prestwich is probably a better idea, plus there will be local pubs and restaurants if you want to eat out in the evening.

The Premier Inn at Deansgate Locks is very close to the city centre and has a car park. My DH stays here if he's having a night out in Manchester.

grayhairdontcare · 24/12/2022 07:55

Prestwich or Bury premier inn for the tram straight in to city might be better

Nik2015 · 24/12/2022 08:00

Don’t do tot.

Other option is Stockport if you want something cheaper. But yeah, in town premier inns are better

bestbits · 24/12/2022 21:18

No i ok E thinks it will be ok then fit one night.

Bit of an odd choice
If you can’t find something reasonable in the middle of Manchester try and find one near a tram stop

emmathedilemma · 25/12/2022 20:16

There’s a lot better places you could stay on the outskirts that would have better transport connections to the city centre. It would have to be very cheap to convince me. A taxi from there into the city centre won’t be cheap.
