We are hoping to book somewhere special to celebrate DHs retirement in March. Its just the two of us. Which is your favourite hotel?

The St Enodoc in Rock

DisplayPurposesOnly · 04/12/2022 15:21

The Scarlet.

Driftwood on Roseland Peninsula

Thank you. 😊

The Scarlet, like PP says. Nothing in Cornwall compares.

florentina1 · 19/12/2022 15:06

The Bay Hotel Coverack. The most amazing place.

Jewelanemone · 19/12/2022 15:07

Gannet Inn, Carbis Bay.

Quornflakegirl · 19/12/2022 15:13

Carbis Bay Hotel in St Ives is pricey but so lovely.

Blenheimprincess · 19/12/2022 15:16

I've eaten at The Scarlet fairly recently and wasn't impressed. A friend also said she wasn't bowled over.

The Driftwood used to be fantastic food but it's lost its Michelin star I think.

Hotel Tresanton is great in St Mawes - I have stayed but some time ago or the Idle Rocks, also in St Mawes is supposed to be good, a friend of mine rates it.

It depends on what you want. Sea views? Amazing food? Other things to do nearby? Walking?

Also, what's your budget? Are there any other hotels you love?

emmetgirl · 19/12/2022 15:17

The Idle Rocks in St Mawes.

SoShallINever · 20/12/2022 22:09

Thanks everyone for your ideas. I guess the budget would be up to about £400 per night as its a special celebration.
Our favourite hotels are the Blakeney Hotel in Norfolk, Ye olde bulls head Inn at Beaumaris and The Wordsworth in Grasmere.
All of them laid back but with lovely rooms and nice food.
We are quite outdoorsy, happier in walking boots than heels.

Th Headland in Newquay. Five star, glam but relaxed enough that you feel welcome to walk through the front door with a wet dog and muddy walking boots. Plus they have the Aqua club spa with lots of different bubbling pools and swimming areas. Cocktails in the outdoor hot tub watching a mid winter or summer sunset on the waves below is my idea of perfection. When we stayed last Feb it was nice and quiet too.

Haydugee · 21/12/2022 23:33

We enjoyed Watergate Bay for the amazing beach and views.

user1487194234 · 27/12/2022 14:23

Love the Scarlet but food quite minimalist
Hotel Tresanton is fab

Movinghouseatlast · 27/12/2022 14:29

Carbis Bay in St Ives is amazing. Views are stunning and the spa is fantastic. It's set out of St Ives but an easy walk along the coast path.

Talland Bay Hotel in Polperro has extraordinary views and wonderful food. It's like being abroad. It's a lovely 40 minute walk to Polperro on the coast path.

Adviceneeded200 · 27/12/2022 14:35

Talland Bay have a 25 percent discount offer at the moment (I've no connection with them, just live locally and saw the ad on facebook)

I was going to say The Headland too.

The Pig at Harlyn Bay is lovely, great food and you can walk to the beach

Craftybodger · 27/12/2022 14:48

The Nare

Adviceneeded200 · 27/12/2022 14:51

You could also rent a small cottage right in the middle of polperro and eat breakfast and dinner out.

This is a good shout as you then have Padstow, where you will never go hungry, less than five miles away! Taxis freely available or you could even walk in for lunch.

londonmummy1966 · 27/12/2022 14:56

Watergate Bay is better than the Scarlet IMO - I don't like the "open plan" nature of the Scarlet bathrooms - I like my facilities to be behind a separate wall.....

LizzieSiddal · 27/12/2022 15:00

Agree with some suggestions here.

The Pig is my favourite, lots of great walks.
The Scarlet- great cliff edge Hot Tub, especially if you book for when the sun is setting.
Watergate Bay had a lot of young Dc there when we went so wasn’t as relaxing as
the adults only Scarlet.

tilder · 27/12/2022 15:03

If you would consider Devon, Burgh Island hotel is pretty unique.

FrownedUpon · 27/12/2022 15:07

Agree that Watergate Bay is full of kids so avoid if you want peace & quiet.

And a meal at Paul Ainsworth No6
