Hello!
We are looking to visit Scotland next summer for a week and wanting some ideas on where. We are looking to go fairly far north and will have a dog, 2 kids under 12. Happy to go in a caravan possibly, or somewhere the kids might make friends. Would love a nice beach.
Totally don't known where to start.
Thanks.

Dornoch and Nairn both have amazing beaches

With Nairn you will be close by to Inverness to do Loch Ness etc and you can walk miles on the beach

There is a parkdean site in Nairn and Embo both right on the beach.

Dornoch and embo are lovely but further north so not as much to do unless you love being outdoors all the time

West coast you like gairloch can be midgie a lot of the time so we never go there!!

The Black Isle. (attached to the mainland). A delightful totally unspoiled corner of Scotland .
Charming little villages like Fortrose and Cromarty, beaches, sea, lovely countryside, safe cycle paths, sealife, boat trips.
Drier, sunnier and less midgy than many parts of Scotland.
Hills, numerous castles, Inverness within easy day trip.

For the foreseeable future I would seriously avoid booking holidays on any of the Scottish west-coast (real) islands accessed only by Cal Mac ferries. The CM ferry service is in chaos, severely compromised and causing terrible problems for travellers and locals.

Ganavan Sands, near Oban - nice beach. Oban is nice and good ferry links for exploring (if they’re working by then - that’s such a shame @2bazookas )

Dumfries and galloway has lovely beaches.. Forests.. Castles... It all really without the hords of tourists.

Moray coast its midge free, tends to have its own micro climate and has stunning beaches. Its a lot quieter then the West Coast and large choice of options.

Totally agree, if you want hill climbing there are the Southern Uplands with the Dark Skies.

Another vote for Big Sands at Gairloch! It's a heck of a long drive for just a week though if you're starting from anywhere south of the border.
