Eurostar

Wasn't sure where to put this!

On the Eurostar website, it says to arrive at the station (St Pancras) 90 minutes before departure, at least. Do you really have to be there that early? My train into Waterloo doesn't arrive until 07.48 and the Eurostar train leaves at 09.01. Will this be cutting it a bit fine? It's midweek if that is of any relevance.

I know one of the perks of the business premier tickets is you only have to be there something like 20 minutes beforehand. So people obviously do arrive late. But Waterloo to King’s Cross is fairly swift on the Northern Line, I would think you’d be fine with around 45 minutes.

I think you are cutting it quite fine. If it all goes smoothly on the day it will be okay, but any delays will make it quite difficult imo.

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 12/11/2022 18:49

I would def get an earlier train in to Waterloo

Sometimes the queues are ridiculously long - like right the way round the station and down towards the entrance to the tube on the side road opposite Kings Cross and then winding backwards and forwards along the entrances to other platforms. Crazy crazy long. I wouldn't leave it less than an hour.

Business Premier has fast track access. The OP won't unless they're travelling in Business Premier or have top loyalty status.

OP there have been plenty of issues reported with security and passport queues for Eurostar. And that's without the risk you add of problems getting from Waterloo to King's Cross.

I wouldn't risk it. You need to get an earlier train into Waterloo, or a later Eurostar departure.

(I used to commute weekly London-Paris on Eurostar, sometimes multiple times a week).

That's definitely cutting it too fine.

SaintVal · 12/11/2022 20:03

Oh dear... ok, seems I'll have to catch an earlier train into London. Thanks all for your help.

Thye don't want you there that early. I've travelled a couple of time recently and got to St P an hour beforehand.

The tube will be busy though at that time in the morning. Anticipate having your head in someones armpit.

personally I like turning up about 45mins beforehand because they usher you straight to the front (the train after yours will also be queuing at that point) and then you get to the train promptly without queuing.

PuttingDownRoots · 14/11/2022 14:22

I still look back in horror to when we (myself, and two children 5&7) were given a 30 min change at Brussels on a through ticket from Duetschbahn... we made it to the Eurostar check in literally as it was closing, then had to be shepherded through passport control, security etc. Brussels is a lot smaller than St Pancras, plus you need to get across London.

What a selfish attitude.
