Plymouth hotels

Visiting Plymouth with DS for a university open day next week. Need to stay overnight due to the distance and am looking for a VERY reasonably priced hotel with parking and within walking distance of the campus.

Have spotted the usual Premier Inn/Travel Lodge but would welcome any recommendation as don't know the area at all.

Jury's Inn is right near the uni.

We stayed at the Imperial which is a small hotel between the campus and Plymouth Ho. Think we paid £80ish a night and that included a decent breakfast. I would have booked with booking.com.

The Jury's is the closest, but the Premier Inns are also very nearby. There's also the new one at Derrys Cross but I'm not sure what their parking options are as none at the building - probably at the council car parks nearby. There is a Travelodge just across the road from Derrys Cross as well.
All these are within a few minutes walk of the main uni campus.
And The Copthorne at the top of town. All fairly equidistant.

Thank you. Have booked the Copthorne as the uni has a good deal.

Any recommendations for somewhere to eat in the evening? DS loves a steak!
Be nice to get to know the city a bit as never been before

For steak the only option IMO is Miller and Carter at Sutton Harbour. Absolutely fab. Sign up to the app a few days before you go and they send you a £10 voucher (it takes 24hrs to come through).

Lots of people will recommend Steak and Omlette but I find the food mediocre at best and the atmosphere utterly dead.

If you want something a bit more varied, Suphas is next door to Miller and Carter and does lovely SE Asian food.

The market at the bottom of town is fab for lunch - we go there a lot on Saturdays (it's closed on Sundays). Small places to eat - Thai, Korean, Japanese, Nepalese, Vietnamese, Mauritanian, vegan... Lots of variation these days! And greasy spoons upstairs. If you have Thai, makes sure to avoid the one that offers spaghetti dishes - it's rubbish. You want the more established one "A Taste of Thailand".
