Anyone living in York?

Is it a good place to live? What do you like about it? Currently, I live in a small town 20 minutes away from Manchester. Is York better than Manchester? I have been to York once in 2018 for a day trip and liked it. At the end of next year, I was planning to move to Manchester. But, I have also been thinking why not move elsewhere for a change of scene. What areas in York are good areas to live?
What are your thoughts on me moving to York?

I live in York. It's obviously very different from Manchester and hard to say if you'll like it without knowing you! Advantages are: beautiful city with lots to do, plenty of good schools, good connections, close to the Dales and Moors, and I've always found it very friendly. Disadvantages are: rowdy behaviour on a Saturday night in the centre from the hen/stag parties, and when the races are on, potential for flooding (check the flood map before you buy a house!) and high house prices. Also houses near the town centre generally have parking restrictions on the roads, and are mostly terraces so little off-street parking.

I don't know if you are after schools, but good secondary schools include Fulford, Archbishop Holgate's and Huntington. South Bank/Bishopthorpe Road, Heworth/Stockton Lane and Fulford are good areas, also Haxby, Copmanthorpe and Bishopthorpe which are a little further out.

We lived in York for a while.
We'd absolutely not move back!
It's built for tourists and that's it. Rent and house prices are stupidly high, city Center is awful due to the amount of stag and hen parties that come in. Absolutely nothing for the younger generations to do in the city centre so they just loiter around. Absolutely awful place to live IMO.

We live in a village outside York and love it! Think it depends OP on what type of lifestyle you're after?

Which village, if you don't mind me asking? Looking at a few different options at the moment and great to get local knowledge !

Village? I thought York is a city?
I live in a town 20 minutes away from Central Manchester now. The town I live in- it has everything nearby. A supermarket 3 minute walk away. Town centre and library- 5 minute walk away. So, I love my town because of it. But, need a change of scene. That is if I can get a job in york next year as a TA. Are there any areas of York where supermarkets and other amenities are close by?

York is a City, but there are villages all around the edge of it, as it's a fairly compact city compared to many, including Manchester!

Loads of the suburbs in the city will have good amenities, as do many of the villages. really it's a case of coming to look round and see where you like!

We moved to York from Manchester a couple of years ago and we love it here. The city centre feels really safe. I always felt quite intimidated in Manchester with all the chuggers and crime. There's lots for families to do, nice parks and museums. The city is beautiful and you can easily walk to some lovely suburbs.

I work in a school and TAs are in demand so I'm sure you'd find work.

Any advice on where to live in Sunderland with family? Is it a nice place to live in? I currently live in York and plan on moving to Sunderland in few months. Am searching for outstanding schools and quiet neighbourhood. Any suggestions please?
