Hotel in Durham?

Spending a couple of days by myself in Durham in October.

Can anyone recommend me a nice hotel? I want it to be central so I can walk around and walk home easily at night. A spa hotel would be a lovely treat but not essential.

I'm so excited to get 2 nights to myself, I'm spending way too much time over-analysing hotel choices.

We’ve been many times and normally just stayed in the premier inn. They are ok but definitely not for a treat. I’ve heard really good things about The Indigo hotel. No spa. I think the good spa hotels are away from the town centre

Stayed at the radisson blu on the river quite central to things, there's a pool, steam room and sauna.

Oh yes I forgot about that one

I live locally and a couple of the smarter hotels in the City Centre are the Indigo Hotel (lovely historic building, Marco Pierre White restaurant etc) and the Town House (great location, has rooms with roof terraces and own hot tubs).

The Radisson Blu on the river is nice and has a spa which I've heard good things about. The Kingslodge Inn is very close to the station (has a cosy/country feel) with a nice pub/restaurant.

Also, just to add in case you haven't visited before, Durham City is very small and safe so anywhere in the centre should be easy to get back to in an evening.

Wow, would it be weird to rent one of those just for me? Are they only for romantic honeymooners, not stressed out wives and mothers running away alone for a weekend?

The thought of a solo weekend sounds idyllic - a peaceful room with a bathtub would probably be enough for me so I take the point on the hot tub Smile

So many lovely cafes and bars to enjoy a good coffee, cake and book!
