Anyone used a driver service for a long distance?

Any idea of cost. My elderly relatives want to visit but live around 150 miles away. Bit frail for the train. Was thinking of a taxi or driver service. Would it be really expensive?

I've got an Uber to my mums which is 83 miles away and it was £70. Put your journey into Google maps or Uber and it will give you an idea.

Ok thank you!

I was talking to someone this week on a plane who'd taken a taxi to the airport from
About 3 hours away and it cost her £160

Could a coach potentially be a bit better for them? Cheaper than a taxi
much more relaxed than the train and if they have mobility problems there’s usually a chair lift to get onto the coach.

Will look into both those options. Thank you.

Bear in mind that driver also has to do 150miles so that’s really a full days work for them. I think you’ll be looking at a few hundred.

You can book assistance for the train so taxi to the station, assistance to the platform (wheelchair or buggy) assistance on to the train and to their seats. They can either board the train themselves or stay in a chair and will be pushed up a ramp.

If they go in first class they will get food and drink too.

At the other end assistance from their seats to the taxi rank or to meet you.

And if they buy a railcard first they both travel at 2/3 of the normal price.

Definitely look into the coach.
My dad can't use the train comfortably anymore but is fine on the coach.

Guaranteed seats, any luggage is taken from him and put away safety by the driver and they can help you get on and off too.
According to him it's full of old folk!

Both our elderly relations use a driver. It’s worth calling lots of companies to get a quote- they can vary by 100%. What you want to find us a self employed usually recently retired person who drives for extra income. A pick up and drive of 90 miles recently cost us £220.

Thanks.

If it's a direct train I would consider first class with special assistance. For a long journey they will want access to a toilet which is easier on the train.
