Edinburgh late November

Planned a long weekend in Edinburgh for late November. Fly out on Thursday return Sunday afternoon. So a couple of whole days.
Looking for recommendations for both family friendly accommodation (2 adults, child and baby) and any sites we should aim to tick of the list while we are there?

Christmas market will be on from 19th. I'd look at air bnb for accommodation. I prefer the new town to the old town. Take a walk up Arthur's seat. Camera obscura. The Castle. Take a walk on the beach. If you want to know where to have a meander this book is good for non touristy stuff. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Places-Edinburgh-Shouldnt-Miss-Shops/dp/395451883X/ref=ascdff_395451883X/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310831438692&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=11246915656631225915&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046888&hvtargid=pla-663332528312&psc=1&th=1&psc=1#

Thank you - I was thinking air BnB (Access to a kitchenette is easier with a baby then a normal hotel room) I will look into your suggestions

I’d suggest the Adagio Aparthotel because they can provide a lot of baby equipment www.adagio-city.com/gb/family-stays.shtml

Edinburgh Zoo is fantastic - it’s the only zoo in the uk to have giant pandas.
Dynamic Earth is definitely worth a visit, especially if the weather isn’t great. The cafe is very reasonable and has a good selection of food.
I’d also recommend Camera Obscura. They have baby carriers to borrow free of charge.

I don't think you'd get child and a baby up Arthur's Seat unless you've got one of those backpack carriers for the baby and a small child would struggle unless they're used to hiking. Calton Hill is an easier alternative for a good view.
The zoo is a good day out but it's on a hill so be prepared for a workout! Also take a picnic as the food offerings are pretty terrible. You can eat inside the chimp house if it's cold!
National Museum
Dynamic Earth
Camera Obscura
Play area at The Meadows
read greyfriar's bobby story and visit his statue
go for a ride on a double decker bus and/or tram if you don't have these things at home
Portobello beach if it's a nice day
I find the castle a bit heavy on history and when i took a small child they soon lost interest.
Note there is a lot of unrest in the city around AirBnB rentals and a short term letting license scheme about to be put in the place. But there are plenty of serviced apartment / aparthotel type places as well. www.edinburgh.gov.uk/licences-permits/licences-permits-applications/9

Check out the Irish bar, just off the main square

I live in Edinburgh and I have no idea where you mean by "the main square"??
Also.....Irish bar in Scotland with 2 small kids??

The botanical gardens are nice for a run around with kids. Lovely walk from town too, through Georgian New Town. You can see the castle from there. The park next door (Inverleith) has a good play park and a duck pond to feed the ducks/swans.

@emmathedilemma I’m laughing at the Irish pub too

Think @hotdiggetydog must just post that randomly on every travel thread to see if anyone notices.

I'm an Edinburgh native and I have never heard anyone describe any of Edinburgh's squares as a main square!

Agreed with what's been said, the Castle is expensive and not the most child friendly attraction, but worth walking up to for the views.

The museum on Chamber Street will occupy you for as long as you like. It has a Scottish history end and more general end, some areas specifically for kids.
