Things to do in Staffordshire?

Looking for things to do with 2 older teens, both with sn’s (some mobility issues), ideally near Stafford or Cannock, indoor and outdoor, no where too noisy or busy as dd2 has sensory issues. A lot of things seem to be for younger kids (zoo’s, parks, farms etc…), they can’t quite manage go ape, dd1 can’t walk too far but short walks are fine.

Wolsley wildlife centre?
bishton hall - short walk, great coffee shop and other little shops
short walks on the Chase from the visitor centre
trentham garden/ monkey forest

Thank you, I have Wolsey wildlife centre on my list, I will look at bishton hall. I did see the monkey forest online but I’m unsure if dd2 would cope with monkeys getting too close, she once freaked out over some meerkats 😆.

Ooh and also rodbaston animal zone…. V cheap, £6 just a few animals but good for an hour or two. Check opening hours. Took dd25..she loved it. Not v busy this week

I don't know what mobility issues your teens have but Marquis Drive Visitor Centre used to loan mobility scooters which were really good off road. You need to stay in the area around the visitor centre but could get them a bit further to quieter areas if walking far is difficult. Might be worth phoning the centre first.

Dd1 really wants to go to animal zone, she spotted it today so we might go there, £6 is a great price.

Dd1 can’t walk far at all, has a blue badge so a mobility scooter would be a good option.

Canalside Farm in Stafford for strawberry picking and ice creams, there's a nice cafe - it's not normally busy.
Bit further out but would they like crazy golf? A new one has opened near Walsall, haven't been but friends have who has said it is really good. Says online it's wheelchair accessible- www.dinosaurworldadventuregolf.co.uk/

mummyh2016 · 23/08/2022 20:18

Canalside strawberry picking isn't open every day though, if the crop isn't good they don't open it so if you go check Facebook or their website before.

There’s a clip and climb near Stone and I believe they do support visitors with mobility issues too.
Trentham gardens which includes shops and places to eat as well as walks.
There’s wildlife rescue centre in Eccleshall called Gentleshaw, not been there for a while but might be worth a look.
Shopping at the new MCArthur glen place in Stafford, it’s not massive but if they like a bit of shopping……

PS. The monkey forest has free roaming monkeys so they do come close to you, so may not be suitable.

We love monkey forest and whilst I can't say for sure that your daughter would like it the monkeys really don't get that close. Its all open ground bur there is a set pathway and the monkeys tend to stay behind the barriers. If they do walk onto the path the staff are very quick to make sure people stand clear and they will just casually walk past you.

Other things in the area:
Cannock chase- they have shorter trecks for those with pushchairs/limited mobility

RAF museum at Cosford? Might be a bit out of the way though

Lovemusic33 · 23/08/2022 20:55

Thank you, lots of great ideas, I’m sure we will find something they will agree on, anything that involves a cafe is always a hit. Dd1 loves animals and wildlife as do i, dd2 not as keen and would prefer to ape, Drayton manor or crazy golf. It’s hard to get them to agree on anything 😆

Fletchers garden centre at eccleshall has tea shop, check crazy golf, small animal sanctuary- but call them to check.😉

We are hopefully doing RAF museum on the way home, my DF was based at Cosford many years ago 😁.

I will look at Fletchers garden centre.
