Last minute break booked with older teens - any suggestions for things to do and places to go? Thanks

You can take a rowing boat out on Chichester canal

It’s a long way to Bournemouth ( the road is really slow)

Weirdly, Bangers and Burgerz on South street served the single best (and very reasonably priced) burger I have eaten in my entire life! It feels like walking into an episode of the Simpsons but you could take your food to the Bishops garden behind the Cathederal (go through the arch on the same side of the road).

Or The Cross on North Street, it’s a Fullers or a Green King or something and does usual pub fare but the young lad in charge of the kitchen is fab and the staff are good. Can’t remember what night steak night is now but we’ll worth it. On Thursdays you will get the pub quiz and if you are very unlucky, Teddy the dog will be there. I want to launch Teddy to the Moon from a cannon.

So glad you’re enjoying your time here OP, you’re leaving on Friday aren’t you, can we help further?

Also for sandwiches in the day go to the Buttery in South Street. Dated menu, incredible venue and DOORSTEP sarnies!

You'd like my personal travel advisors!! Are there any good tapas restaurants? I've found VIENTO DE LEVANTE on Google?

Arties kitchen on South street, ask to be seated upstairs, amazing building, not cheap cheap but good tapas and super wine list.

If you’re stuck for things to do today, Boston tea party is very good for brunches.
Visit Pallant House and the oxmarket, really good art galleries. The Novium also.
Kim’s is a second hand book shop on South st worth having a look.

I went to Boston Tea party the other day and it was awful! Staff forgetting things, dry cake and everything was slightly…sticky.

NCTDN · 25/08/2022 21:44

@YesitsBess thank you - had a lovely meal at Arties. Thanks everyone for great advice this week!

Oh I’m so glad! I’m happy you’ve enjoyed our lovely tiny city and will be glad to suggest more if you visit again.

Did they put you upstairs? The building used to be a wool (possibly grain I forget) merchant and still has all the original mechanisms for that and the building opposite (the Vestry) has the same. They’ve done a super job on the refurb and menu and wine list.

NCTDN · 25/08/2022 22:08

Yes I asked for upstairs. World have been disappointed if downstairs as the door was wide open and there was a draught.

Marvellous, upstairs makes the place for me.

My Personal Recommendations for Portsmouth

I’m guessing by mentioning Chichester to Bournemouth you like the idea of swimming and water sports? Me too!

Theres a wakeboarding place at the top of Portsmouth, pretty much on the m27

https://www.southcoastwakepark.co.uk/cablewakeboarding 15min sessions free training and low cost wakeboard and wetsuit hire.

It’s a basic sort of place, not like liquid leisure in Horton, but at less than £30 per session it’s a great way to use up some of that teenage energy.

as far as swimming goes for little or no £ the Witterings is a great beach

https://www.westwitteringestate.co.uk

be careful though, the parking has changed and may be extortionate.

if you’re travelling down towards Bournemouth, there’s Avon beach, where there’s a restaurant the noisy lobster that does beach takeaways, a bit pricey but the car parks sensibly prices and it’s still a reasonably cheap day out. You can always walk into miseries town for more sensibly priced fish and chips and have a stroll around the harbour.

Depending on your budget you may consider hiring a boat/doing a yacht charter. I’ve found these two that seem more watersports orientated
https://portsmouthyachtcharter.co.uk & https://valentinacharters.co.uk
great for family days out, they leave from Port Solent marina and can visit the Isle of Wight.
i haven’t personally used them, it’s an little too costly for me just yet, but saving for a special occasion.

Port Solent at the top of Portsmouth is a great place to visit, with restaurants car meets etc.
https://portsolent.com Check out their calendar, Sundays are always good there.

if you want to visit the Isle of Wight, there’s ferry’s that leave from Portsmouth, Southampton and Lymington, which will be a lot more cost effective that the yacht charters, there’s a product for everyone.

hope this has been helpful.
