Any recommendations for things to do in Liverpool with a male teen Over the bank holiday weekend?

now he’s growing up (and the younger one isnt coming) it would be fab to find activities or something a bit different to do, especially in the evening.

Junkyard golf is great fun. For under 18s it’s Sunday to Thursday only and up to 6 pm.

the Protestant cathedral has an amazing view and great cake

the slavery museum is v well done as is the museum of liverpool

PermanentTemporary · 17/08/2022 07:10

Is he old enough to go to pubs? We had a nice time stopping off in pubs with a Beatle connection (the Philharmonic, the Grapes) in between other things.

Into history at all? There's a ton of fascinating stuff and we got a lot from just walking around rubbernecking, but it does depend on their interests. The Maritime museum and the Slavery museum in the same building have so much to offer.

We also loved visiting both the cathedrals but both of us have an interest in religious history and culture. The Catholic cathedral maybe more attractive and unusual if just going for a quick look.

We would have taken the Dazzle ferry on the Mersey but the weather was so terrible we didn't!

Book into the restaurants beforehand would be my advice, we couldn't get in anywhere on the Saturday night. On the Friday we really enjoyed Salt House tapas if he's into that.

Hmm I'm not helping much with nightlife, shows how old we are... hope others respond...

Breakfast or lunch at the Tavern on smithdown Road- it has won awards and is very popular with locals of every age www.tavernco.co.uk/ book in advance

Ghetto golf in the baltic triangle, if he is old enough www.ghettogolf.co.uk/liverpool/

ArCains arcades (next to golf place above) is a massive arcades place, never been but its supposed to be good www.arcains.co.uk/

Mersey ferry is fun, just go back and forth

Do they like shopping? Do you have a car? The Cheshire Oaks outlet village is a 30 minute drive away and popular for discount brand shopping. Don't bother getting the bus there, takes forever. City centre is good for shopping too

strawberrie · 17/08/2022 07:15

Williamson tunnels!

Robinkitty · 17/08/2022 07:16

There’s a ghost walk around the Georgian quarter and loads of pubs and restaurants.

YellowHpok · 17/08/2022 07:16

Best food places are on Bold Streetor castle Street. Mowgli is excellent and has a couple of places on both. Book waaay in advance www.mowglistreetfood.com/

Rudy's pizza is the best pizza place also, two in town, www.rudyspizza.co.uk/pizzerias/boldst

jellybellydancer · 17/08/2022 07:49

Thanks for the suggestions. He’s 15 so not old enough for pubs/bars yet

we are going Fri to sat and I think the tunnels are closed then. We liked the look of those.

also the ghetto golf, but it’s over 18s at the weekend.

Junkyard golf is under 16 on day on Sunday

ihateexcel · 17/08/2022 08:44

Arcains is great and there is a bar for you as well ! I took my kids on Friday last week and it was lovely and air conditioned with tons of games to play.

Evening wise have a look what's on all the different theatres. Some are not that pricy.

Train trip out to Crosby for a walk on beach.

Moose Coffee does amazing food including pancakes and the best chocolate and peanut butter milkshake. They have two branches in Liverpool city centre.

Some bars might allow him to stay in till 8 or 9pm.

The British Music Experience is good.
The Aqua Park at Wild Shore www.wildshoreliverpool.co.uk/aqua-park
The Royal Liver Building 360 has a pretty cool immersive experience rlb360.com/the-experience/
Hunt Fun does a good treasure hunt huntfun.co.uk/fun-treasure-hunt-things-to-do/Liverpool.php
The Smuggler’s Cove is one of my favourite places to eat.

IHateHeatWaves · 17/08/2022 08:59

When we go to Liverpool, my 2 teen boys love:

The Beatle trail. Will you have a car? If not, you can join a tour. Visit John and Paul’s house, Strawberry Fields (great visitor centre), Penny Lane, Elinor Rigby’s grave. Then I took my 2 down The Cavern Club to watch an afternoon gig.

Took them for Lobscouse (Scouse) in one of their many posh pubs.

Took them to a Yoko Ono/ John Lennon exhibition. Probably not on now, but point is, they have loads of cultural stuff on.

Paddy’s Wigwam

Ferry across the Mersey.

Tour round Anfield

Shopping - Liverpudlian men are very hot on clothes. There are loads of cool boutiques a few street away from the main area towards the Albert Dock.

ShirleyJackson · 17/08/2022 09:01

I had a great time at an afternoon gig at The Cavern! Miles better than I thought it would be, and all age groups there, singing and dancing together. Loved it!

IHateHeatWaves · 17/08/2022 09:02

The Cavern is brill.

PrimeMinAuguster · 17/08/2022 09:31

Junkyard golf is great fun
We are near Liverpool and I wholly agree with this. Really recommend it, also the Cavern!

Funf · 17/08/2022 16:46

The Williamson tunnels are operated by two different groups.
We had a great time with this one, they do Sunday tours.
williamsontunnels.com
The Above group do members tours its £7.50 for family membership
williamsontunnels.com/visit-the-tunnels/

Then This group who I have no experience of
www.williamsontunnels.co.uk
There are loads of tunnels many undiscovered, many known about but with no access. Hence two groups.

Now if its underground you want
liverpoolwarmuseum.co.uk

Liverpool is a great often overlooked by tourists, but it has loads to see and do and things for all pockets

The one unmissable one for me is the Speed boat tour of the Older dock area, its really good to see the area from the water and if you are up for it they will take you to part of the dock that has no speed limit and take the boat to maximum speed, It was fantastic.
www.liverpoolwatersports.org.uk
Bold Street for food and the bombed out church at the top.
Some ideas here
www.donthibernate.co.uk/liverpool/
If you fancy the Beatles tour?
www.donthibernate.co.uk/liverpool-the-beatles/
If you ask at the Cavern they will let you show Teens around, we told a gang of Spanish exchange students, they made them very welcome

jellybellydancer · 17/08/2022 17:14

Amazing suggestions. Thank you for all of your help.

Go to Anfield. The people who work there are lovely.

eveoha · 17/08/2022 17:52

‘I Hate Heatwaves’ please show some respect for my religion and do not use perjorative slang for Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral 😡 would you do the same referring to Al Rahma mosque 🕌 and what’s with the ‘lobscouse’ 🙄

IHateHeatWaves · 17/08/2022 18:12

As a fellow catholic Scouser, I’ve heard people refer to that cathedral in this way for decades. It’s not a slur. I can’t believe a fellow Scouser would have a sense of humour failure over that.

As for lobscouse. I’m really surprised that you didn’t know the word Scouse, comes from the word lobscouse, which is the stew Northern European sailors are, which caught on in the port city. If you go anywhere with a decent chef in Liverpool that serves it, they will call it that.

eveoha · 17/08/2022 18:56

i do know the etymology of the word scouse 🙄 however I doubt that neither Porky at the Art school nor the Barrie Bros would call it lobscouse 😊 Re Cathedral I care not a jot if it’s been referred as PW since Dick docked - I still consider it quite offensive - a ‘paddy’ being an alternative perjoratve reference to ‘bog trotter’ for Oirish people ☘️As you may well be aware ☘️

JaneJeffer · 17/08/2022 19:05

As an Irish person I am more offended by 'Oirish people' than Paddy's Wigwam @eveoha

eveoha · 17/08/2022 19:13

Oh Jane Jeffer I am too - it was an attempt at levity 🙄☘️ Is bogtrotter ok then? 😊☘️

IHateHeatWaves · 17/08/2022 19:13

Oh dear. What an own goal.

I don’t actually believe you are a proper Scouser. No one I know from Liverpool would take themselves that seriously.

MumofSpud · 17/08/2022 19:31

We took our 15 year old DD last summer, we popped into the Cavern for 1 pint and to have a look round and stayed for the 2 tribute acts (a few hours!) - she had great fun singing with everybody else in the audience - I was Shock as she thinks she is soooo cool

JaneJeffer · 17/08/2022 19:34

eveoha · 17/08/2022 19:13

Oh Jane Jeffer I am too - it was an attempt at levity 🙄☘️ Is bogtrotter ok then? 😊☘️

I suggest you don't take the bus tour of Liverpool then. When they mention Paddy's Wigwam you'll probably fling yourself off.
