Tenby long weekend

User1567 · 12/08/2022 11:41

Hi we are going to Tenby for a long weekend. Would appreciate some ideas for things to do.
Going with extended family so kids of all ages below 12 and 4 adults.

Mainly need ideas for the kids who are actually not very fussy about what to do ,
but since we are only going for three nights want to make the most of it.
thanks

Beaches! There are 3 lovely beaches in Tenby for a start, then there’s the rest of the epically gorgeous Pembrokeshire coastline too. If you want kids activities locally check out the dinosaur park or Folly Farm, both are lovely. If you get a chance head up to Pembroke itself to visit the castle, lovely cafe and will probably have kids activities on. The Iron Age village at Castell Henllys is well worth a visit too. Mainly just enjoy the gorgeous beaches and lovely places to eat thoughx

The beaches there are lovely and well worth spending time on. We went recently and went to Oakwood theme park for the day, it has bad reviews online but we loved it and so did the kids (age 2-20) it's not big and fancy like Alton towers etc but a good variety of rides and not too pricey. If you get a kids pass trial for £1 you get kids in cheaper

The pub called the Harbwr has a big room at the very back with games in that anyone can use. There is a little alley you can use so you don't need to go through the main pub and there is a bar there too.

Heatherton World of Activities is a lot better than Oakwood in my opinion.
Wiseman’s Bridge and Coppit Hall beaches have good rock pools.
Manor Wildlife Park is good for a few hours. The tigers are the big draw, but there are a number of animals which children can feed and handle. There’s also a large indoor play area, brilliant adventure playground and a climbing wall.

@Fivemoreminutes1 most of my kids are older and weren't interested in the activities at Heatherton as they wanted rides and rollercoasters so depends on what your kids are into.

DrShepsBall · 12/08/2022 13:54

Heatherton World of Activities is ace.

Take a kite if you have one - plenty of opportunities for flying on the wide sandy beaches.
The best places to eat with kids are Qube, Billycan and The Fat Seagull

We did one of the seal boat tours you can book from Tenby Harbour.

Both my kids loved the high ropes at Heatherton.

We did a day in Pembroke and enjoyed some time at the castle and a walk by the river.

Manorbier- it has a castle, a beach and a pub.

Boat to Caldey Island?

User1567 · 17/08/2022 11:56

Would it be possible to do folly farm and Pembroke castle in one day?
and how long would be good for manobrier? Am I right in thinking that a boat to calf leg island will be a full day trip?

Caldey island could be all day .
Bit of a squeeze to do castle and F.farm in one day.
Manobier castle is small , tiny village with a lovely beach with a fresh water stream that runs into sea , good for building a dam /playing , surfers use this beach.
The whole area is not overly commercialised which i love, its peaceful, relaxed scenic ,every beach is lovely .
Park at coppit hall beach and walk through the tunnels to wisemans bridge then back to saundersfoot , get chips from chippy opposite amusements and eat on the beach or sit on a bench on the harbour and take in the view.
Colby woodland garden -national trust is lovely ,do pond dipping and you can walk down to the beach at amroth.
Have a lovely time.

thanks so much. 😊 really looking forward to it now. I had heard of Tenby a lot but didn’t know what to do and where to go. Have a plan now

Yes caldey island full day, Folly farm deserves a full day really but you could finish with a quick beach dip. Pembroke castle and manorbier or possibly broadhaven beach another day. But you’ll be tired!

simonthedog · 19/08/2022 14:49

I think Folly Farm is a full day

JenGin · 19/08/2022 14:54

If you have time and don't mind a bit of driving it's certainly worth exploring other areas around Pembrokeshire. It's a stunning place. Bosherston lily ponds and the beach there would be a nice place for you all to go. Along with lots of areas where you can spot seals. Even a trip over to Skomer. That said, you're only there for 3 days and probably don't want to spend too much time driving from place to place but definitely worth going back for future visits in other areas around Pembrokeshire. Little Haven is lovely.

Have a brilliant time!

Thank you for all the suggestions and help with itinerary . We might stay a couple more days now seeing as there is so much to see and do.
