No barbecues at Center Parcs

Barbecues are currently strictly banned at Center Parcs - a perfectly sensible measure given that they are massive tinder boxes in the current conditions but CP seem to be making no effort to inform guests before arrival. Sharing for info.

We're in a Dutch one. Same. However I think that might be s national ban

bloodywhitecat · 11/08/2022 16:13

It's not surprising really, it's far too big a risk in a dry forest.

WhenDovesFly · 11/08/2022 16:14

They're probably (wrongly) assuming everyone has the common sense not to light a BBQ in the current conditions. Unfortunately some people (not you OP) have very few brain cells and such people are the reason that packets of peanuts carry the warning "contains nuts".

Last weekend neighbours in my area were setting off fireworks. We've had numerous fires on local heathland but still the idiots persist.

I take your general point but that labelling isn’t to do with stupidity. Peanuts aren’t nuts, but legumes. It is common to be allergic to tree nuts but not to peanuts, and vice versa. Such people need to know if they can safely eat a packet of peanuts without risk of contamination with tree nuts.

It's same at Tattershall Lakes for anyone heading there.

RockaLock · 11/08/2022 16:24

I had a text from them just before our week there earlier in July, saying that no barbecues were permitted, so they are letting people know. Or at least they were.

out of interest how does the BBQ ban impact campaign and cooking on a gas stove? Are places banning these as well?

We got a text message 2 weeks before arrival to say there were banned, and an email and then also on check in the worker giving us our bands said "just a reminder no BBQ's"

I'd say we had plenty of notice.

That’s great and much what I would expect. We had none of that, just a letter on arrival.

Why would anyone need to be told in advance that it's stupid to light a fire in the current conditions?

GCAcademic · 11/08/2022 17:23

Surely no one would be expecting to be able to light a BBQ at the moment?

We are currently on a campsite at a small festival. We've only been told "no disposable bbqs or fire pits ". BBQs on legs and gas camping stoves are still allowed. We've decided to skip the bbq anyway as it's too hot but we are still cooking on our camping stoves.

Gas camping stoves don't have embers coming from them in the same way charcoal barbeques do so the risk would be lower. Disposing of the charcoal after a BBQ also poses a huge risk as does placing a disposable BBQ on the ground then lighting it.

Oh, never change Mumsnet. I’m sharing info. Scroll the fuck past, and be reminded please that not everyone in the UK lives in the south of England. Family visited us recently and although they had heard about the incredibly dry conditions they were shocked to see for themselves just how scorched it is in the south east.

We were camping recently and told no bbq's or campfires. BBQ I was fine with but the lack of campfire in the evening did make a difference to the atmosphere. Totally got why they were banned though and didn't complain.

ThanksItHasPockets · 11/08/2022 19:07

I hope the rule is actually being enforced. Theoretically e-scooters are banned but I saw hundreds of the fuckers when we were there recently.

Supercal00 · 01/09/2022 16:17

I think the ban is still on, does anyone know?

poppetandmog · 01/09/2022 16:27

Yes, ban still in place. We are arriving tomorrow and got a text today.

Thanks, going tomorrow so just wanted to check. I wonder if it will become a permanent measure.
