Blackpool for less able-bodied and baby

Hi all,

I've just booked a surprise few days to Blackpool in October to take my mam to see the illuminations.

My mam can walk butthat far well and we'll have an 11 month old with us as well. Staying a 10mins walk from the Tower.

Can anyone suggest any things to do on out stay that will hopefully please all parties.

So far on the list of possibilities I've got:
Tower
Ballroom (possible afternoon tea)
Sealife centre
Louis Tousauds

Obviously there are the piers and Amusements.

I had thought of an illuminations tour, but I think they may start too late for babys bedtime.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

The second paragraph should read (thanks auto correct)

Stanley Park is nice if the weather is good and I think the tourist bus will take you there . You could take a ride on the tram to Cleveleys or Fleetwood.

Blackpool Model Village is fully paved and there are no stairs to negotiate. The gift shop also has a spare wheelchair to loan out if you want to walk around the full gardens, and there’s a mobility scooter for use within the village if needed.

Super thank you. I've added them to the possibility list

Blackpool zoo is really easy to navigate for disabled people. It's fully wheelchair accessible.
There is a bus direct from the promenade.

And you can hire a wheelchair at the zoo if needed

We went in a day trip to Southport while we were staying in Blackpool which is a drive away but worth it IMO.

The comedy carpet is fun to do. It's a large, flat area with catchphrases and jokes on it that you can walk round and go down memory lane with. It is just across from the Tower, right next to the tramline and convenient for the town centre, places to eat, etc

You always used to be able to jump on a tram that takes you past the vast majority of the illuminations. I used to love the nursery rhyme tableaux as a kid

If you are driving, Southport is a good flat day out (paddling and boating lake)

Plenty of places to hire a mobility scooter for about £15 a day too.
Ideal for seeing the lights as she can scoot up the promenade while you are pushing the pram.

You can jump on the bus on the promenade down to lytham, St Anne's and fairhaven.
All sorts to do there.

YoureAMeanOneMrGrinch · 08/08/2022 23:26

Definitely recommend getting the 11 or 68 bus down to Lytham for a wander and even St Annes to walk down the prom.

They have the illuminated trams out during the illuminations but may clash with baby's bedtime. Are you in a hotel or b&b? You can make use of the leisure facilities in a hotel

Great thank you. Please keep the ideas coming...the more options I have to give her the better (its her birthday soon, so she can choose the activities and we'll get them booked in).
