Day out in Ely by train

Hello
Considering visiting Ely on the train next week with my dn (aged 7) and dd (aged 14).
Planning on going to the Tesco when we arrive to get done picnic bits for lunch and then going for a walk along the river.
Does the jubilee gardens have a playground suitable for a 7 year old?
Are there any boat rides you can take along the river?
Are there any other parks (within walking distance) to visit?
Is the town centre walking distance from the train station if not are there busses?
Sorry for the questions hope you can help Flowers

It's been a while since I lived near Ely but yes, the town centre is easily walkable and there is a boat trip (the Liberty Belle, I think they have a Facebook page).

Ooooh we went to Ely last year and I absolutely loved it. The walk along the river is lovely - yes there are boats, it's an idea to go down there and text them to book ahead. Inside the cathedral there's a stained glass museum which is running lots of kids activities over the holidays too, and so is Oliver Cromwell's house. And there's an amazing bookshop and lots of lovely cafes. I'm not sure about trains and distance to town but Google maps could help - but it's not a massive town so it'll be fine. Have a lovely time!

I live about 10 mins drive from Ely so we go there often. The town centre is within walking distance of the train station around 15-20 mins depending on how fast you walk. Ely country park (not far from town centre) is also worth a visit and they have a lovely park and seating area there as well. Hope you have a lovely time!

We were there today, do make sure you pay a visit to Jack’s Gelato!

Thank you these are some lovely ideas, we will definitely try the Liberty Belle.
Does anyone know about playgrounds in Jubillee Gardens please or would we need to go to Pocket Park or the Country Park for that?

I'm not massively familiar with Ely but we did the Country file Children in Need walk there. There was a small park near the Cathedral and then we walked for quite a while to what must be the Country Park which we stopped at for a bit so the children could play and there was a huge boat they could play on.

I always mean to go back but haven't managed it yet.

Just to clarify, the boat was on grass and was childrens play equipment, not a boat on water which my description sounds like.

I think Jubilee Gardens play area is aimed more at toddlers, for play equipment for older kids you are better aiming for Ely Country Park or possibly Cherry Hill (which is almost opposite Jubilee Gardens).
