Rye - things to do

WhenDoISleep · 18/07/2022 23:22

We have a long weekend in Rye coming up and would be interested in things to do/see with the DC (13 & 10) in the area.

Also any recommendations for places to eat etc. would be greatly appreciated.

In terms of places to eat with a teen and tween, I’d recommend Tatner’s Street Kitchen, Simply Italian and The Globe Inn. Knoops does amazing milkshakes and I think Marino’s Fish Bar does the best fish and chips!
Hastings is a nice day out. There’s the cliff railway, Smugglers’ Adventure caves, shipwreck museum and a treasure hunt www.treasuretrails.co.uk/products/things-to-do-hastings-sussex
Bodiam Castle is worth a visit and usually has special events on during the summer.
There’s also a really good go-Karting track called Lydd Kart

Hoof for dinner -perfect for teens. Worth booking restaurants now as can get very booked up in advance. Beautiful walk to camber sounds c2-3miles or you can cycle it. There's also a really long cycle trail towards Dungeness which is lovely. Walking / cycling along the river in the nature reserve and along the beach path towards winchelsea is lovely too. We have teen DC and they love this. Knoops is an absolute must. It's the first place we go when we get off the train! There's great shops my DDs like to look around too.

Thank you all for the ideas.

Am guessing you are a fan of the Mapp and Lucia books? If you children don't know them, look out for the audio book versions for the car journey there - or there are a couple of screen versions tools.

Rye harbour nature reserve.

Kite surfing on Lydd beach
Walk around Dungeness and fish in a bap at the food van

Definitely channel Mapp & Lucia - the locations are all very identifiable.

I’ve never heard of Mapp and Lucia before, but I will take a look for the books.

Ooh lucky you - you are in for such a treat,! I love them - they're my go to comfort books. Tilling is a fictionalised version of Rye but it is absolutely based on the real geography so you can visit all the locations . Haven't been for years but they used to sell little maps in the shops showing all the locations - though tbh you could use the books themselves

Have a great time
