Ideas for things to do near to the Barbican

DS is visiting Guildhall School of music tomorrow and I’m accompanying him on the train. Any good ideas of interesting (preferably cool) things to do relatively near to the Barbican while I’m waiting for him? I’ve been to the Museum of London several times. Even just a little peaceful/shady corner somewhere? Thanks!

The Barbican itself is lovely op! You can get a coffee inside where it's dark and shady or out by the water. There's a cafe. You can wander round much of the estate - the highwalk.

There's also a cafe/bar at the Barbican cinema where I think there is air con!

Postman's park

Guildhall art gallery and the amphitheatre?

10 mins walk away is the wonderful Postman's park - a secluded, shady walled park near the Museum of London with some beautiful tiled memorials to people who've died heroically.

There’s a Banksy in the tunnel, at Barbican.
If you have a whole day I’d wander to St Katharine’s Dock so you can sit outside or else go down to the Tower Bridge.
there’s also the Uber Boat to Greenwich.
liverpool St station area now has the scaffolding down which has been there forever
will you be returning regularly?

Forgot you could also stroll to Boxpark and then maybe down to the Bagel shop in Brick Lane.
The famous E Pellici cafe in Bethnall Green Road is worth a visit - loved by Gemma Collins

These are all excellent suggestions, exactly the sort of thing I was after, thank you. It hasn’t occurred to me to explore the Barbican itself. Probably a stupid question but how do you actually get ‘in’? (where is the best entrance to use?)

Yes to Postman's Park. What about St Pauls, or the Millenium Bridge. I quite enjoyed walking through the city at the weekends, there are all sorts of hidden gems.
If you are going again on a weekday the Bank of England Museum is fascinating.

Silk Street op. Just the main entrance. Really recommend just a wander! So much to explore. Often a free exhibition in there too. I could spend hours there! Coffee and a book. Lunch (which is nice in the cafe) walking....

You could also go to the First Dates restaurant by St Paul’s. I think it’s called Paternoster - you can google it

The Museum of London is there too, it's the best museum in London IMO and is free, air conditioned and has lovely cafés.

There's a really nice tropical garden at the Barbican! Might be a bit hot for this weather though...

I love The Barbican - definitely wander round there. It does have a lot of graduations in the summer though so could be busy. Silk Street is the best entrance to use. There's a good food market on Whitecross street for some lunch. If you have a few hours there's a great museum/art gallery at The Guildhall - there's a Roman amphitheatre in the basement. I'd guess it'd be quite cool down there as well!

Postman's Park is just wonderful. A lovely way to spend a short while contemplating life, the universe and everything.
