UK holiday with boats?

where can I holiday in the UK with small boats to rent / use? It could be a canoe or a sail boat or a dingy or rowboat. Something that a sensible teen can manage while the adults have a nice drink on the dock.

I guess what I'm really looking for is a rental cottage that comes with a boat, or a place to rent boats very nearby.

All my online searches are turning up houseboats which is not the right thing.

So can anyone make a recommendation?

Not quite what you are asking for, but have you looked at Caley Cruises? It's motor boats, on the Caledonian canal, Loch ness, etc. You do Inverness to Fort William and back. So staying on board, but travelling the whole time.

Mudeford Quay
Falmouth
Newquay
Or anywhere with a bay and watersports equipment hire

Does your teenager know how to sail? I'm not sure anywhere reputable would hire a boat to a teen unless they've got some RYA certificates.
If he doesn't then you could maybe find somewhere that runs the courses so they could learn.
Either way, I'd be looking at the Lake District - Windermere, coniston and Derwent Water all have a variety of boat rental places (sail, kayaks, rowing boats).

Hm.. I just looked at the website of one place I know ... it doesn't seem to do sailing boats any more but even the other options require under 16s also have an adult on the water. But wtf would all the adults prefer sitting around drinking rather than the chance to be 'messing about in boats'?

I'm racking my brains for a property we considered for a multi-generational holiday - had its own lake and Canadian canoes, but can't remember. Was quite large as we go away with 20+ people so might not have been suitable for you. However googling for that has led me to this one for instance:

And also a few properties at Cotswold Water Park that say they provide kayaks or canoes.

This campsite in Norfolk offers glamping bell tent accommodation and canoe hire, you can launch the canoe from the campsite. £50 a day for the canoe, though!

Look at Kingfisher Lakes, near Beverly

Thorpeness in Suffolk has a great boating lake. Lots of property to rent nearby.

Lake Windermere. You could even join the teen on the boat - they could drive you whilst you enjoy a drink on the boat! We hired one a few summers ago and it was perfect - took our own food and drinks. You can park the boat up at several points on the lake too if you want to go exploring a bit.
