Area in North/West Wales with beach and amenities

Looking to try somewhere different. We've done Rhosneigr, Trearrdur Bay, Menai, Caernarfon, Abersoch and Criccieth. We would love an area that has a good sandy beach and some amenities (we don't require a lot, a few places for food/ice cream!). Beach needs to be easily accessible as we have 3 children under 4.

Talacre? It's sandy. I've only ever been on a day trip but it looks nice and has a holiday park or two so assume amenities too.

Barmouth? Happy memories of childhood beach holidays there, but accept that it might have changed since then!

Fivemoreminutes1 · 29/06/2022 16:34

Barmouth is very popular, but never overcrowded. It’s a proper British seaside resort, complete with trampolines, ice creams, donkey rides and a vintage steam railway just a short ferry ride across the estuary.
Benllech is a lovely beach on the east coast of Anglesey. It’s really safe for swimming and paddling, and easy to access with a pushchair.

I was coming on to say Barmouth, but pp's have beaten me to it! Nice small town with plenty to do and see, and good beach.

@Funf Wow, thanks for all the info. We often do day trips to Llandudno and will no doubt do so during the school hols so looking a bit further out.

Currently narrowed it down to a cottage in Criccieth and one in Morfa Nefyn. We've been to Criccieth for a day when we stayed nearby a few years ago and loved it. Not been to Morfa Nefyn but sounds like there's just enough places to eat and a good beach. Have you been? We definitely prefer quieter places, which may not be for everyone but the kids are too young to get bored (a spade and ice cream is enough for them!) so we'll make the most of that for now!

Morfa Nefyn is very nice but more at Cricceth its only a small place, Its famous for the Pub on the beach

Location is great but read up before you go as no bookings no food in the evening, never did chips so best to check.
If you stay in Criccieth more stuff is in easy reach locally or by heading south towards Barmouth. And a bigger selection if the weather is bad.
Look at this after Aberystwyth

Last year we went to New Quay ( The one in Wales) and you could see Dolphins from the car park it was great

If the weather holds you should never have to leave the Llyn Peninsular, just dont tell people how good it is!

I love Rhos on sea. The beaches are nice, the sea is beautiful and blue and there are lots of little cafes dotted around for snacks etc.

Funf · 01/07/2022 19:07

Another Vote for Rhos. If you have small kids it has a nice kids playground too

I visited Criccieth about three or four years ago and it seems a good choice, cannot advise on Morfa Nefyn though.

Benllech - lovely beach and all the amenities you need without being busy

Lisbeth50 · 02/07/2022 21:24

Harlech has the best beach. Not too far from Criccieth.

Ballygowenwater · 03/07/2022 19:33

We stayed in Nefyn over Easter and it was fab, there’s loads to do nearby. Aberdaron nearby is fab too.

Completely agree, it's a lovely place for small children.

declutteringmymind · 16/07/2022 22:24

We loved aberdyfi

countdowntonap · 16/07/2022 22:26

Trearddur is as good as it gets!!!
who in their right mind suggested Talacre? 😂😂

Nipplestoyou · 16/07/2022 22:34

I'd go a bit further south; Llanrhystud, Newquay, Llangrannog, Tresaith....

Aberystwyth and Cardigan as shopping, eating and entertainment centres are both lovely in their own way.

Papergirl1968 · 16/07/2022 22:57

I recommend Tywyn. Nice beach, seafront play area, cinema, ice cream factory with Honey Bear character who the kids love, Talylyn railway, Dolgoch falls, etc. It's a short drive to Aberdovey for crabbing and good pub food, Machynlleth has a nice swimming pool, and Barmouth is a short train ride away and has a small fair.

It wasn’t me but what is wrong with it? Beautiful, sandy beach which has a fabulous sunset!

Funf · 17/07/2022 04:59

Talacre has improved quite a lot over the last 20 years, very nice beach nearby nature reserve, some more expensive small holiday parks and the local house price has gone through the roof.
It all depends on what people want

YnysMonCrone · 17/07/2022 06:22

I live on Anglesey. While I agree Benllech is a lovely beach, it has been absolutely rammed over the last few Summers. Cable Bay is nice but no toilets. Lligwy is just a few miles north of Benllech and usually much quieter *and gas toilets and a cafe.
