Caravans/Lodges in Northumberland

Looking for advice on family friendly self catering in Northumberland please. Ideally a static caravan or chalet, on a small, quiet site. Don't really want anywhere where the units are right slap bang on top of each other or anywhere with evening entertainment! Kids play area would be nice though. Any recommendations??

This is so helpful, thanks everyone.

Village Farm looks perfect but is unfortunately fully booked. Maybe next time. And the Running Fox cafe is definitely on our list to visit.

Was put off Riverside Wooler a bit as they seem to have late night discos most nights but that’s interesting to hear that the entertainment is over the road.

yeah think we’ve ruled out Church Point, the area doesn’t look great for us.

Also came across another one today - Golden Sands at Cresswell. Anyone been?

Anyone know anything about Golden Sands at Cresswell?

Golden sands is a family run one rather than a chain so probably less focussed on entertainment. Great beaches but not much else in the area (that would suit us but isn’t for everyone). I would prefer to stay further north myself but it depends on what you want to do. Cresswell isn’t too far from me so that could be clouding my judgement.

Church Point should be avoided as it not great also Sandy Bay and Haggerston Castle . Cresswell is a lovely quiet site even though it has an Entertainment venue . I've stayed at Felmoor Park and it lovely with lodges and hot tubs . I'm from Newcastle so know the area well. Seahouses has a gorgeous caravan park right on the sea front . We've just been camping at Waren Mill in Bamburgh which has a Caravan park and that was great for visiting the surrounding areas of Northumberland .

DecemberCroc · 25/06/2022 22:30

Great thank you both!

what was Waren Mill like? Was it pretty busy/noisy? Been to Bamburgh before and loved it. The Seahouses one is fully booked for when we were wanting unfortunately, it looks lovely.

Think we’ve narrowed it down to Percy Wood or Golden Sands - these seem to have less entertainment and reviews online seem good. It’s a shame there aren’t many smaller lodge parks in the area, they all seem huge!

Waren Mill was lovely quite a large site but felt rural . The Entertainment lounge is v small and outside pool wasn't available but we only stayed there as a base . Lovely and clean good facilities. Excellent as a base for the Northumberland coast . I would recommend for the scenery and Bamburgh Castle in all of its glory. Seahouses isn't far away either . I would say in high season it would be really busy.

DecemberCroc · 26/06/2022 08:47

Like the fact Waren has a pool.
Was the site noisy at night? The reviews online for this one aren’t great, lots mention noise, bad language and rowdy folk!

We enjoyed it but we were in the camping area . We didn't experience any noise or rowdy behaviour. The pool was closed when we stayed there and its quite small. We don't normally use onsite entertainment facilities as we like to roam about the area . Riverside in Wooler is another great site.

DecemberCroc · 26/06/2022 20:28

That’s good to hear, thanks. 😄 Yes, a few people on here have mentioned the Wooler one. We hadn’t really considered it because it seemed to have a full entertainment programme going on into the wee hours, but will certainly look again at it. We would be planning to be out and about a lot but wouldn’t want somewhere where it’s really noisy into the night….like my sleep too much! 😁

We've stayed at Felmoor and there was no traffic noise. The Rothbury one with the pool is across the road from the entertainment and pool so no late night noise unless you went over that way. It had a small park as well.

RampantIvy · 26/06/2022 20:39

I just can't see Rothbury being rowdy TBH.

DecemberCroc · 26/06/2022 20:50

I don’t think Rothbury has a swimming pool….is this Riverside Holiday Park at Wooler (Verdant Leisure?) They have karaoke every night, followed by late night disco….not sure it’s our kinda thing TBH!

We are staying on a little park in Bamburgh. It's 12 lodges all with hot tubs and outdoor space. Not sure about kids park tho but looks like plenty area to play football and we are taking rounders etc.

It's from Sykes holidays - restharrow lodge. Looks beautiful and I can't wait to go!!

DecemberCroc · 26/06/2022 22:01

Oh wow, that looks lovely! I’m jealous….not available and a bit over our budget this year.

Swingoutsistersledge2 · 26/06/2022 22:09

Riverside in Wooler does have an entertainment site but the good news is its actually away from the Caravan park as you have to cross the road to get there.

DecemberCroc · 26/06/2022 22:16

That does sound better if it’s a distance away from the accommodation. The reviews of it on Tripadvisor are pretty bad but may be more the touring bit rather than hire caravans.

The Seahouses one is Seafield. If you follow them on Facebook, there's quite a lot of cancellations

DecemberCroc · 26/06/2022 22:32

Will do, thanks. I think everyone and their granny must be going to Northumberland this year judging by the lack of availability!

Anyone else been to, or know anything about the holiday parks Percy Woods at Swarland, or Golden Sands at Cresswell?

Thanks so much for all the suggestions so far, much of them are fully booked so we aren’t getting a huge choice this year! We
shouldn’t have left it so late!

We stayed at Landal Kielder Waterside and it was amazing. Highlight was renting the segways with my daughter (there were only us and the instructor). There's also a brilliant outdoor play area with bouncy pillows as we call them. Lots of fun memories of this place and definitely want to go back. Just saw this is an old post but wanted to share this for anyone searching like I did.

londonmummy1966 · 18/03/2023 17:05

Seafield Park in Seahouses has a lovely clubhouse with an indoor pool/gym/spa and a bistro on site (but no other entertainment). Its very near a children's playground and mini golf.

If you want something quieter then this is close to Bamburgh and has a hot tub and outdoor grill hut etc. goldenhillretreats.co.uk/ Depending on how old your children are the people who run it might be able to offer a couple of afternoons of activities (climbing/zip wire/coasteering/kayaking etc).

DecemberCroc · 19/03/2023 19:29

Oh we did look at the Keilder one, thanks. It was a little further out from where we wanted to be but would definitely consider for the future.

Seafield looked lovely but was unfortunately fully booked.

For anyone else looking, we ended up going to Percy Woods and were really happy with it. Quiet, clean site. Play park on site and walkable to a public park with a lovely cafe. Such a nice part of the country and loads to do nearby for families.
