Llandudno

Depends on their interests. I'd go for Anglesey personally, as ours are more outdoorsy. If they want to be able to get to places and do things without having to drive, Llandudno.

Hotels more available in Llandudno, suggest you consider that instead of helping to deny local people an affordable place to live.

Easier as said to get about without a car.

They might be camping. We don't stay in hotels but then we don't stay in cottages or AirBnBs either.

Totally agree with you though, some communities are being devastated by second home owing.

Gosh balalake, what a horrible post.

I think I’d avoid Wales altogether tbh.

OP did say that they were looking at AirBnBs.

Anglesey is much nicer than Llandudno in my opinion, but just like in other popular tourist areas (Lleyn, Pembrokeshire, Cornwall etc) the locals are being completely priced out of the housing market by investors buying holiday lets and people buying second homes. Which is having a knock on effect on local schools etc. Yes, tourism contributes to the local economy, but the balance has been thrown completely out in some areas.

There are lots of lovely campsites on Anglesey, we stayed on one a few years ago that had a private path to the beach which was great for the DC. Another option if you'd rather stay in a cottage is looking for a farm that has diversified into tourism and converted a barn into a holiday let. These don't take housing from locals, and the holiday rental is likely keeping the farm afloat during pretty tough times for the agriculture industry.

PritiPatelsMaker · 19/06/2022 21:12

Ah I missed the bit where the OP said specifically said that they were looking for AirBnB.

Staying in converted farm building is a good call too. I've seen far too many farmers declare bankruptcy and if this keeps them going then that's great Wink

There’s a bit of a misconception about air bnb.

I have a holiday property, not in wales. It’s a legitimate business, a limited company. I let it though a local agent, and just recently, the local agents have also started advertising on air bnb.

my property has been a holiday property since 2004. Before that it was a hotel. It’s never been anyone’s home. But it’s on air bnb (not my choice).

Air bnb is a platform. I think the actual problem is residential properties that have been flipped to holiday lets and then advertised on that platform.

I dont camp and due to having 2 teens of different sexes who don’t want a share a room we rarely use hotels so can I never go to Wales?

Isseywith3witchycats · 01/07/2022 16:21

i would say Llandudno as theres more to do there for teens we took our teens to angelsey and pretty as it was there wasnt a lot to do for teens other than walking the coast routes plenty of holiday flats too in Llandudno more like caravans on Anglesey or camping

Maybe locals shouldn't sell to people who aren't local then. They're always happy to squeeze extra out of the second homers when they want to sell but moan about prices when they want to buy.
I don't know a single person from Bala who isn't happy to stay in a holiday rental or elsewhere.

OP I'd prefer Anglesey and would do a day trip to Llandudno but it depends what holiday you want.

CanaryShoulderedThorn · 16/07/2022 22:10

Angelsey is gorgeous with so much to see and do. I can highly recommend the hotels in Beaumaris; The Bulkeley, The Liverpool Arms and Ye Old Bulls Head Inn. Chateau Rhianfa also wonderful.
Llanddudno is a bit boring for teens, after the first day (have family there).

Just a warning for people thinking of booking Anglesey in 2023. The Menai Bridge closed in October due to structural problems. On 18th Nov the Welsh Government put a 12 month order on it. They said this doesn't mean it will be closed for the entire 12 months but it's obviously going to be a big job. The traffic queues on the Britannia Bridge are already bad. They are going to be absolutely dreadful during the 2023 tourist season. If in doubt Llandudno is the better bet for 2023. The only saving grace is that holiday lets on Anglesey should be cheaper than the rip off covid prices. As a lot less people will be going once the traffic chaos goes more mainstream and foreign holidays have opened up, the holiday let prices should start tumbling!
