Hi, Had a busy few months at work and fancy a week away, somewhere not to far.. say 3 to 4 hours drive from Lincoln. Both in our mid 50’s ,might take the dog.. love the lakes, Norfolk and the border country vibe.. but would like to explore somewhere new to us. We like the outdoors ( weather depending!) like quirky small towns.. happy to book an airBnB , self catering cottage .
Any suggestions please?

Scarborough , the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors and the stunning coastline to the North and South 🌊.

Have you explored the Peak District? Bakewell is a lovely town and makes a good base for lots of day trips, but we also love Matlock Bath. There are loads of dog-friendly attractions and places to visit e.g. Chatsworth, Crich Tramway, Treak Cliff Cavern, Heights of Abraham
We had a lovely stay recently in Ironbridge. The Ironbridge Gorge Mushem is excellent and very dog-friendly
Lavenham (Suffolk) is quirky and there are some nice places to visit in the surrounding area including Long Melford, Kentwell Hall, Bury St Edmunds, Ickworth House and Sudbury - this isn’t a very dog friendly option though, sorry.

Somerset, lots of quirky towns, open dog friendly beaches (check the council websites for which are dog friendly, typically not the town beaches. Bristol has lots of interesting things to visit. I recommend the car museum and yeovilton museums. Big live music scene - in my town on weekends there's a choice of 3-4 pubs with live bands, no cover charge all accept dogs too

Peak District is fabulous if you enjoy walking. Stay in a nice village with a couple of nice pubs and restaurants. Day trip to Bakewell. Love it.

Scottish Highlands! Or even one of the islands - Mull is beautiful.

Amid · 19/06/2022 09:15

Woops, more like 7 hours but so so worth it.

OneCup · 19/06/2022 09:42

Yorkshire dales? Some lovely walks and not as busy as the lake District.

Maltester71 · 19/06/2022 20:48

I agree about the Yorkshire dales. Lovely pubs, good food, scenery, riverside walks!

PritiPatelsMaker · 19/06/2022 20:58

I was going to suggest Buxton.

DasAlteLeid · 19/06/2022 21:42

Everywhere in Herefordshire is beautiful, a walker’s (and dog’s!) paradise. 2hr 45 to drive from Lincoln to Symonds Yat:

Hebden/Tod are ok but I’m not sure they are worth longing for

Yorkshire Wolds esp around Beverley - gentler than the Dales and v foodie esp Malton which is on the edge. Also Vale of Belvoir (intersects three counties so not really marketed)

TheRoadToRuin · 21/06/2022 14:53

Filey is beautiful. Lots of possibilities for trips from there and there are loads of S/C apartments right on the sea front.
I've used this company several times. www.fileyholidayaccommodation.co.uk/specialoffers

A bit further north, Helmsley is a lovely market town with lots of places around.
Northumberland if you want to go further North. Last year we stayed in Seahouses and visited Lindesfarne, Bamburgh etc

Hello - you mention Norfolk - perhaps you'd like to look at the website for our holiday home at Snettisham beach, between Kings Lynn and Hunstanton, www.the-patch.com. It's a chalet bungalow, built around a Victorian railway carriage!

Well off the beaten track, a few minutes walk along rough footpaths to the wild shores of The Wash. The beach featured recently during the BBC's Winterwatch, as it's right by the RSPB Snettisham reserve, and Wild Ken Hill.

Do get in touch if you'd like more details.

Best wishes, Jill
