Legoland where to stay?

Thinking about legoland sometime this year.

Wondering if it is possible using public transport and if so where would be good to stay.

On the other hand I may have a new car by then that I would trust so again cost effective accomodation nearby, prefer self catering usually,.

You can use public transport. There are shuttle buses from Windsor. Windsor has trains to Waterloo and Paddington, and also to Reading (which pretty much has links with the rest of the country).

No idea about self-catering accommodation, but there is a huge range of hotels in the area, from Travelodge up to the Marriot. Some places have deals with Legoland. No idea about the prices, but there is a brand new Travelodge in central Windsor that would make an ideal base.

We have stayed twice at the Bull Hotel in Gerrards Cross. You do need a car but it does a GREAT value break including the tickets for Legoland. We have also found the family bedrooms are the nicer ones.

The last time we went we paid an extra £10.00pp for an evening meal, when we got down to the restaurant the price on the menu was £25.00pp.

The only thing to mention is that it is very popular with Weddings so it is noisy at weekends.

Thanks Natasha if I get a new car I will have a look at that one.

last year the legoland website had details of hotels that they linked with, that did family deals

Scramble · 15/01/2008 23:30

Ooh thanks I will have another look at their site.

We stayed at the Travelodge in Central Windsor and drove to Legoland. We had two family rooms for 5 of us. The rooms are nice enough and the buffet breakfast is good. 2 kids eat free with one paying adult. They also do light meals for lunch and dinner. It is walking distance from the train station and there is a Waitrose, shops and restaurants next door. We got the 26 pound saver rate for each room but I think they are having a 19 pound sale on now.

Scramble · 18/01/2008 00:47

Thats a great price.

mymama - how long does it take to drive to Legoland from the Travelodge?

mymama · 18/01/2008 23:09

Approx 20 minutes. Bearing in mind we are from Australia and had landed in the UK at 5:30am that morning so were a bit cautious with the car and the roads.

cornsilk · 18/01/2008 23:11

We have stayed at 3 different hotels, we found a Marriott one the best.

ScienceTeacher · 18/01/2008 23:11

Windsor Travelodge to Legoland is more like 5 minutes. It's hardly any distance.

TwoToTango · 19/01/2008 15:31

thanks mymama and ScienceTeacher - am hoping to take DS this year but always like a bargain.

Am hoping to be able to use tesco clubcard vouchers for hotel or legoland entrance - any tips anyone - i've never used clubcard vouchers before LOL

TwoToTango · 19/01/2008 15:51

Just tried the travelodge site and its telling me £70 a nite - how do I get the cheaper rate?

ScienceTeacher · 19/01/2008 15:56

When are you planning to visit? £70 seems very reasonable, and in line with the B&B. The location is fantastic - second to none.

TwoToTango · 19/01/2008 16:23

Was planning a Friday in June - I don't know that part of the country at all but I keep seeing Travelodge deals for £19, £26 so i suppose I was expecting a bargain

TwoToTango · 19/01/2008 17:49

Anyone know how far Travelodge Slough is from Legoland?

ScienceTeacher · 19/01/2008 19:33

It's about a 20 minute drive. If you went there, it would just be a bed for the night. In Windsor, you could have lots of fun.

LIZS · 19/01/2008 19:34

won't the £70 deal include 2 day tickets though

ScienceTeacher · 19/01/2008 19:37

The TL website says that you can get a family room on 6th and 13th June for £49.

TwoToTango · 19/01/2008 19:37

No LIZS that was just me looking at a room on the Travelodge website. To be honest i've been on the legoland site and it seems like a much better deal to book a package with them.

ScienceTeacher - are there other things to do/see in Windsor then?

ScienceTeacher · 19/01/2008 19:47

one or two

TwoToTango · 19/01/2008 21:23

Thanks - i'll look into it

mymama · 20/01/2008 00:58

Cheapest rate in June is 49 pound for Fri and Sat. Windsor Travelodge is in a fantastic location. It is set in amongst the shops and across from train station. Windsor Castle is a short walk. You could search for vouchers or discount codes for Legoland. We went 5th October and got adults at kids prices of ukhotdockets.com.

TwoToTango · 20/01/2008 12:45

Thanks mymama - it is the last Friday in June that is the only one I can go. Have looked on the TL site and and Windsor doesn't have parking onsite - is local parking pricey. It does look like a great location. I will look on that site you mention now.
