Is Tameside close to Manchester? How do I get from Manchester Victoria train station or Manchester Piccadilly Train station to Tameside? Google wasn't helpful.

Head to Ashton-under-Lyne, that's Tameside

DrRuthGalloway · 16/06/2022 07:29

Tameside is an administrative area on the North-East of Manchester conurbation. Includes Ashton, Shaw, Uppermill, that kind of area.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 16/06/2022 07:32

Tameside is an area south of Manchester so it would depend exactly where in tameside you were going

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 16/06/2022 07:34

Sorry East of Manchester but it covers various towns, without a more specific town it would be impossible to advise

Mabelface · 16/06/2022 07:42

You can get a tram from Piccadilly to Ashton-under-Lyne. It really depends on where you want to go within tameside!

TwoBlueFish · 16/06/2022 07:49

Go on Google maps search for the address you want to go to, click Directions, change “your location” to Manchester Piccadilly, click the little train icon to give you public transport locations.

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/06/2022 07:52

If you're trying to get to something like a college or local government building in Tameside, you need to find the actual address. Sounds as though you might be looking at a job advert or similar?

SweatyChamoisPad · 16/06/2022 08:16

Ashton Under Lyne is the major town in Tameside. You can get the tram or train from central Manchester. If you need Stalybridge they also have a station (and an excellent buffet bar!). Google Tameside train stations for the others - there are a fair few.

Shaw and Uppermill aren't Tameside. They're classed as Oldham.

Where in Tameside do you need to be OP?

I was looking at jobs in tameside. Now, I know it includes Ashton and Stalybridge. Thanks for your help!

Tameside includes Ashton, Audenshaw, Denton, Droylsden, Dukinfield, Hyde, Mossley and Stalybridge.

emmathedilemma · 16/06/2022 12:30

Type Tameside into Google maps and it shows the area.

Lol I was going to mention that but I’ve already been called a pedant by a colleague today 😂

I live near both and they're definitely not Tameside !! Lol

Sorry ...got muddled because a friend moved Mossley to Uppermill... didn't realise they had gone to Oldham!!

Shaw and Uppermill aren’t in Tameside.

Ashton, Mossley, Stalybridge etc are.

Honeyroar · 17/06/2022 00:04

Sorry cross posted!

SweatyChamoisPad · 17/06/2022 00:13

To be fair it’s only over th’hill. I sometimes take an extended cycle commute home via Mossley and Saddleworth back to Chadderton.

brookstar · 17/06/2022 08:41

In fairness Mossley is very close to Uppermill ( Shaw not so much).

Uppermill don't really like being part of Oldham! They would prefer to see Saddleworth as detached from Oldham.

Honeyroar · 17/06/2022 17:22

That’s because Saddleworth used to be in Yorkshire 50 years ago and got moved to be under Oldham’s control. And because Oldham is a dump.

And as a Yorkshire person now living in Saddleworth I completely understand!

Peccary · 19/06/2022 08:02

Just to add, Tameside is the furthest East of the Manchester boroughs, Stalybridge is the last town, the next stop is Derbyshire and a few miles to the Peak District. Just mentioning this in case you are considering a move as parts of it aren't very urban

Peccary · 19/06/2022 08:10

Manchester Victoria to Stalybridge is on the Leeds line and very quick. Tram to Ashton takes about 45 mins from Piccadilly. Train from Manchester to Glossop stops at a few places in Tameside (Guide Bridge, Hattersley)
