DS13 has a long inset weekend so I'm looking to take him away from 18-20th June. I've got £100 for accommodation, will be on public transport from London, but really would love to have some countryside and coast.

I also can't walk very far!

Is it possible, any recs?

Thank you

I don't think your budget will be enough for the south coast. East coast, somewhere like Clacton or Walton on the Naze, trains from Liverpool Street. Quite nice beaches and accessible.

Cheap hotels. £50 a night is a very low budget for peak season.

I had a lovely weekend in Broadstairs recently but the b&b was £100 per night and that seemed to be pretty standard.

Can you camp? Or look at the Youth Hostel Association?

girlmom21 · 08/06/2022 19:46

If you can't walk too far is camping out of the question?

Have a look at the Premier Inn map, it shows prices per night. We stayed in the one in Chichester for £39 a night, it’s a great location in the middle of town and the Wittering beaches are a short bus or taxi ride away.

I wonder if a youth hostel would work for your budget? They’re really nice these days and have private rooms.

I’ve just had a look on the YHA website and thought some of the coastal ones might suit you, like Brighton or Littlehampton. Or there are a few in Norfolk, like this one www.yha.org.uk/hostel/yha-sheringham

I also would suggest YHA - they have good prices and do private rooms.

Or you could try a camping pod?

118 quid, private room in a hostel. 5 mins form beach. Self catering so won't cost much.

In Dorset

Rainallnight · 08/06/2022 19:56

That’s lovely @tiedyetie . I quite fancy going there myself!

Partypoooooper · 08/06/2022 19:56

You can get the train from Norwich to wroxham (Norfolk Broads) or Cromer and sheringham or great yarmouth, not sure about accomodation costs but there's plenty of static caravan parks in the area.

I wish I could help. Its much cheaper up north but expensive to travel there.
Liverpool would fit the bill, nice city a couple of good beaches food and accommodation at all prices.

North Wales also has it all at all prices but I feel it would be expensive to travel so far?

@Rainallnight

I'll join you! I could do with a weekend on a blue flag beach then chilling back at the hostel! 🐬

There is a youth hostel in Brighton, although the Travelodge there is often cheaper.

MichaelAndEagle · 08/06/2022 20:22

East Coast mainline train to York or Newcastle then local train to the coast?

DontKeepTheFaith · 08/06/2022 20:22

Margate or Southend? Southend premier inn can be quite cheap but possibly not the weekend in summer. You could do one night though? Early arrival on day one, see if the hotel can store your bags and return late the next day.

Southend has the longest pleasure pier in the world and I love it. Beach is great too.

Margate is just fab. Broadstairs is nearby and the beach is lovely.

Ormally · 09/06/2022 10:02

Lowestoft? The accommodation prices are not as high there for the area, but if you stayed inland a bit then there are pubs or Airbnbs, and could get to the coast. Similarly, you could stay around most of the towns in Essex in a budget place and there are good train connections out to Clacton, Walton. Leigh on Sea, Southend etc, which can offer you some coast. Even Mersea Island, although that would need a bus connection. Or mainline train to Norwich to stay, and then bus out to Beccles, Great Yarmouth area, etc.
