We have a week in Weymouth booked for August. Anyone who is familiar with the area, is there a water park nearby, or a swimming pool with slides etc?
Open to any other suggestions of things to do in the area also.
Thanks

Not really. There’s Dorset Water Park at Corfe Castle, which is about 40mins away, and Mega Slip and Slide at Corfe Mullen, which is even further.
For the dc, there’s Fantasy Island fun park, Sandworld and an aquarium at Weymouth. Dorchester skate park is good and Bovington tank museum has something for everyone tankmuseum.org/what-to-see-and-do/something-for-everyone

We were there last summer and went to Splashdown in Poole for a waterpark, it was really good, we did have to book weeks in advance but not sure if that is all gone now post Covid.

Are you staying in Weymouth itself? If you have to drive in the parking is a bit of a nightmare but there is a huge car park on the left hand side as you go in where we usually managed to get space, it's then about a ten minute walk down to the front.

There is a really nice part to Weymouth harbour with pubs / bars / restaurants and a really not nice part on the other side.

Chesil beach, Portland Bill, amusement arcade and rides at the end of Weymouth beach.

I dont know if it's like it every year or it was because of Covid but the traffic was horrendous and restaurants needed to be booked days in advance.

Nice fish and chip shop on the side of the harbour. You’ll know which one as it’ll have a queue.
I noticed last year that a lot of the shops and cafes around by the harbour had gone. Big warehouse type building that had some cute shops in was all closed up.

my kids enjoyed the making up to the ‘castle’ and the museum there.

have to disagree with bovington tank museum having something for everyone. Dh and ds2 loved it. Dd was crying because she hated it! I mean while I do love history and enjoy most museums the tank hall was a bit once you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all.

the main high street in Weymouth is a bit rough and ready. The beaches are beuatiful though. Clean and great for small children.

Thank you! I will have a look at Splashdown and book tickets if need be. We do have parking fortunately.

Don’t forget Monkey World - it’s near the Tank Museum. It rehomes rescued primates and is a really good one to visit. Entry times are staggered and it’s best to book online. Take a picnic as the queues for food are usually long.

Bugsy73 · 20/05/2022 06:33

Ooh yes, thank you. Definitely want to go to Monkey World!

Don’t know about water parks but we loved Monkey World🐒.

Splash down in pool is great. I also second monkey world for a day out. Depending of the ages of the kids there’s the sealife centre in Weymouth which has (or at least had last time we went) a little splash park. If the kids are older then the Dorset water park would be good. Bowleaze cove is just along the coat from Weymouth. You can walk along the front between the two if you want a good walk. Sammy the seal is very often on the beach there.

weymouth town is a bit meh. But you can hire peddleos on the beach. There’s an ok arcade on the front. The tank museum and Kingston moorward are also quite near by. If you get a rainy day the plaza cinema in Dorchester is very reasonable and traditional. Also brewery square in Dorchester has nice restaurants and is a bit nicer than Weymouth itself with fountains the kids can splash about in.

Poole sorry.

The Nothe Fort is well worth a visit & there’s a lovely view from the top. There’s also Pirates Cove crazy golf at Lodmoor Park and a very good Sea Life Centre. The beach is clean and very safe and it’s very handy to be able to pop across the road to M&S if you want a sandwich. Lulworth Castle is worth a visit as is Corte Castle.
