Best Value UK Holiday?

GreyhoundGardens · 01/05/2022 11:13

I don't think we will go overseas this year.

Looking for recommendations for the best value UK holiday, or how to get a good deal?

We ideally need a dog-friendly holiday too, as would prefer to take the dog if holidaying in the UK.

Also limited to school holidays for the first time.

Open to any and all suggestions!

We love Scotland. It's cheaper than England (where we live) for accommodation and there are rarely traffic jams and rarely any charge for parking (outside cities). Just lots of lovely open space and interesting places to visit.

Whilst not a holiday as such, we tried a days out app during Easter which has places to see and things to do across the UK - might be worth looking at if visiting attractions and experiences. They give you money towards your day out for each person in your group so it does help your money to go further. The website is called keetoo.com

May be worth looking at. Was super easy to use.

Wales is good for holidaying

Scotland schools go back in the middle of August so you might find more availability / cheaper rates after that. I find going to slightly off the beaten track places can be a lot more affordable but just as enjoyable and often less crowds. Some of the holiday park companies enable you to search by date and no specific location, or select multiple locations which can be useful if you want to compare prices.

Is Scotland really bad in August for midges though?

CeeceeBloomingdale · 07/05/2022 21:21

We’ve never had a problem although we tend to go coastal where I believe it’s less of an issue.

Arthursmom · 07/05/2022 21:26

@clarasara east coast of Scotland midgie free. West coast not so much. As PP said, coastal also less of them. East coast coastal and you're fine.

Definitely east coast Scotland, Moray Firth area. We had a wonderful holiday there last August.

We love broadstairs in Kent, with its 7 local beaches and bays and lots of family friendly entertainment on your door step!
