Can DC fly to Europe with expired British passport?

DC has British + other passport (non EU). We've got a holiday to Italy booked for July. Didn't realise until too late DC UK passport due to expire in June. Other Non EU passport still valid for many years. Italy allows entry from non EU country DC has passport from.

We were about to post the passport renewal docs today but realised we would have to also send in the non UK / non EU passport - so there's no way we can do that as we'd risk our holiday. Trying to get a fast track appointment but none available.

Will I have problems flying to Italy with DC and their non UK / non EU valid passport, given the expired UK passport? (and then re-entering the UK after?)

You can just photocopy the non Uk passport and send it in for renewal.

@jimboandthejetset what's the face for?

We're talking about someone who has a British passport. They are meant to use that to enter the UK.

People without a British passport will obviously have to enter the UK with a different one.

The OP will have the expired passport to show her DC has British citizenship. So she may get asked some questions but she will be able to get back in.

@StuckInARug on a separate note we renewed our DCs PP recently and received the new one in less than three weeks.

Just take both, and make sure you present the non-UK one on the way out and both on the way back - passport control in the UK aren’t going to refuse you entry because your UK passport’s expired.

thank you everyone for your replies. We’ve decided to take a chance and post the expired British passport hoping it will come back within 12 weeks. We’ve sent in copies of all pages plus evidence of our upcoming trip. Hoping they accept it and return it quickly.

Even with having to supply a copy of the other passport it was just 8 weeks from start to getting the new passport. It seems to be a problem worldwide!

My daughter has not expired non EU passport and when we arrived back we (parents) showed our uk passports. Customs person wanted to see daughters expired uk passport as well as her non eu passport.

I think you will be fine with the other passport. I have a UK passport and a passport from an EU country and have entered the UK with the EU passport many times with no issue.
