Heading over there for a hike but I'll be a woman on her own. Can anyone recommend a safe / well populated route please and where to park? Looking for around a 10 miler... thanks

Monsal trail, its like the M25 of biking/hiking routes. Plus with Bakewell at one end of it, you deserve a cake once you're finished

This walk includes part of the Monsal Trail www.visitpeakdistrict.com/things-to-do/bakewell-edensor-chatsworth-walking-route-p678301

I would say in the Peak District you will have the opposite problem - too many people! Somewhere like Baslow/Curbar edge is a lovely walk, park in Baslow Village. Monsall Dale is good, as mentioned above, and Kinder Scout/Stanage Edge are good walks - park in Edale and Hathersage villages respectively if you want a 10 mile walk. Have a lovely time! I often walk in the Peak District/Lake District/Dales alone and I have never felt unsafe.

I often walk and run in the Peak and there is nowhere that I wouldn't feel safe on my own. All the main trails have plenty of people on.

The Hope Skyline route is lovely, with beautiful views. Up Cave Dale, over to Mam Tor, then along the ridge to Lose Hill and down.

Or the skyline above Edale to the north is equally nice

Hope skyline is lovely ( but is it longer than 10 miles ? It's been a few years ) it's easy to do half anyway

It's about 9 miles according to my Strava, but there are some variations on the route possible. A lovely day out, anyway, and you can have cake in a cafe in Hope afterwards.

I'd say all of the Peak District is very busy! I go running there a lot as a lone woman and it's really not an issue. Head over to Lose Hill/Mam Tor ridge above Hope if you're worried about being alone but I would recommend avoiding that because of the crowds.

I often walk alone in the Peak and have never had a problem.
My favourite big walk (for me) is from the car park at the top end of Ladybower, then up a very steep bit that takes you up via Lost Lads and Back Tor to Derwent Edge, where you then get a long high walk with great views, and not too much up, before circling back down. I think it's about 8 miles, and there's a nice cafe in the car park. The main part of the walk is on peaty ground and a stone walkway over the peat, and there are some fabulous crazy weird stones all along the top of the edge.
It's never been deserted, but it's far less busy than places like Curbar. I love Curbar edge, but it gets very busy as it's a lot more accessible for children and less fit walkers as there isn't so much up.

Just googled, and it's this one:

There are lots of very busy popular places in the Peak, but it is definitely possible to find places with some solitude and space and no crowds.
Another walk I really like goes from Shillito Woods and round in a circle over... I want to say White Edge? and round past some moors where I've seen stags several times, and back round through wooded areas. Let me look it up...

ShinyMe · 29/04/2022 17:21

Ah, Shillito woods round via Ramsley Moor - here: www.walkthepeakdistrict.co.uk/shillito-woods--ramsley-moor--big-moor.html
I'm sure I've extended that to White edge though.
It's a nice walk, but not one I'd travel a long way to do. But if you're in the area and need another walk, it's nice, and often quiet.
