Would you stay in a holiday let in a residential area?

I live in a small tourist town.

More and more properties are being bought and converted into holiday lets.

I have no issue with holiday lets are such but I do think they should be restricted to certain areas of the town.

There are now holiday lets on a new build residential estate and some on an older estate that was once entirely (& the majority still are) social housing properties.

Personally I just wouldn't like to go away on holiday and be in the middle of people walking their kids to school, people leaving & arriving home from work, kids playing out in the street etc.

Interested to know if I'm the minority.

I agree it's a bit weird having a holiday let in the middle of a housing estate, although I've rented plenty of traditional style holiday cottages on lanes/roads that have had residents living nearby.

I’ve stayed in plenty of city centre apartments both U.K. and in Europe where most of the other flats were lived in by families. Not stayed in a housing estate yet but I wouldn’t rule it out. Surely wherever you go on holiday people live there all year round?

Me and DH have stayed in a few Airbnb's that are on a housing estate. When we visit family we often do. We would rather stay in one than use a hotel.

I stayed in a couple of air bnb that are in towns, often residential areas.

I’d prefer not to as it’s not the atmosphere I’m after.

Yes, we have often stayed in holiday lets in residential areas - last year, we stayed in a new build. It doesn’t bother us what the atmosphere is, because we are out walking/sightseeing all day and only go back there in the evening, either after eating out, or since Covid to cook dinner.

We stay in Airbnbs in residential areas all the time. DS1 has food allergies so self catering is easier. Residential areas are nicer in some ways because they have "standard" shops and services not touristy ones.

But as PP said, for us the accomodation isn't a big part of the holiday, we spend most of our time out and about

I live very rurally, so it's nice on holiday to be able to stay somewhere where I can walk into town or other places easily. It's good not to have to drive everywhere as usual.

I think they have their uses - there's a few AirBnB type properties on my estate and I can see why people would stay here.....good sized properties, local facilities within walking distance, 10min bus ride into the city centre from the end of the road, and free parking which is rarer than hen's teeth in this city!! Also, most of the properties on our estate are 1 or 2 bedroom flats so they can be useful for friends / family visiting locals.
