DD is going away with her mates in July so I thought a nice break for dh & I might be nice.

Going to treat ourselves so looking for nice option, thoughts are;

  • don't want budget
  • dont family options
  • nice places to visit, interesting places to visit
  • don't mind hotel, nice b&b or cottage sc type
  • don't mind area ie city or countryside

Recommendations & reasons why please ? I don't like flying so looking at UK options first :-)

Applegarth Villa in Windermere because it’s really well located and within walking distance of some great restaurants. Each room is quirky and unique, and many of the suites have hot tubs.

Edinburgh and go on an excursion to Loch Lomond if you aren't driving.

Have a look at Haven Cottage in Ambleside. Me and DH had a gorgeous anniversary weekend there.

Malmaison in Newcastle. Lots of things to do. Coastline is amazing. Durham also lovely.

Could you look what's on at theatres around the country and base the trip around something you fancy seeing?

Woodbridge, Suffolk. Lovely little town with some good hotels and restaurants nearby. You've got places like Orford, Dunwich, Aldeburgh, Southwold up the coast and Sutton Hoo is close by (as seen in Netflix The Dig).
Alternatively the North Norfolk coast is beautiful. The Hoste at Burnham Market is a very nice hotel and restaurant if budget isn't an issue.

What about a Road Trip?
Loads of nice Citys and country side in the UK
Liverpool and North Wales are often missed gems with High class and low budget activities.

DH and I did 4 days/3 nights in the Edinburgh area recently and I would do the exact same again in a heartbeat!

2 nights at The Balmoral then 1 night at The Bonnie Badger in Gullane.

Day 1 we drove to North Berwick and got the train to Edinburgh (hotel 2sec from station), dumped bags and went a walk up the royal mile, Gladstones land, parliament and hollyrood palace. Back to the hotel, pre booked massage and facial/swim then room service because we were zonked!

Day 2 delicious breakfast (coconut yogurt to die for!) then a morning of shopping (the tidiest Zara ever seen) then a walk to Dean Village and coffee/cake in Urban Angel. Disco nap then dinner at Kyloe (far end of the street) followed by a nightcap in the hotel bar.

Day 3 we had a lazy breakfast then got the train to North Berwick and drove to Gullane (10min), dumped bags, coffee then taxi to the NB Gin Distillery for a private tour and tasting. Taxi back to hotel, walk along golf course and through town. Dinner in the award winning restaurant with Tom Kitchin in that evening being a bonus. Lovely relaxing drinks in the bar complete with pool table.

Day 4, another amazing breakfast then into North Berwick and a bit of shopping (Time and Tide) then they had a gorgeous bakery (4 seats) so felt obliged to scoff a doughnut with my latte Blush. We then drove to Rosslyn Chapel (Da Vinci Code) and had a look around.

We live a few hrs away so made it easy to fit lots in on travel days too.
