Used to live in London pre-children but now feel totally out of touch - have a friend coming to the UK for a visit and we're meeting her in London which means I'm looking for something to entertain her 5 year old and my 14 year old! Any ideas gratefully received.

Feed the parakeets in Hyde Park if the weather is nice.

What's the 14 year old interested in? Most five year olds not from London like really everyday London things, DS likes the fact the trains go underground, or going on a clipper up the river, also a fan of red buses. Sometimes the natural history or science museums have exhibits that even teenagers will like, and there will be other parts the five year old will like. Wahaca has a good kids menu and the teenager might like the more grown up experience of the small plates.

Any of the museums, if warm rowing on the serpentine, river boat to Greenwich, street entertainment in Covent Garden, hamleys

Yes a boat trip definitely. Hop on at Westminster and go up to Greenwich or beyond. Grown ups can have a glass of wine and all ages will love seeing the city from the water

London Transport Museum in Covent Garden is great - free for kids U17. While you are there you can also check out the street artists.
Boat trips also great and a walk along South Bank always entertaining.

Science Museum and Natural History Museum are great for any age.

Thanks, everyone - just on the train on the way back. We went on the boat to Greenwich and went to Greenwich Park, it was a lovely sunny day and everyone had a nice time. Thanks so much for all recommendations!

Perfect - the views from the river boat of London, all the bridges and buildings are magnificent. I live in London and this experience on the river still has me in awe.

It was a beautiful day in London yesterday, you had the right weather for your trip. Lots of people about enjoying the sun, the bank holiday and the freedom!

We walked past St Paul’s cathedral and they were ringing the bells for Easter Monday, apparently they have 12 bells and a complete set of peals takes four hours! They ring them on New YEars Day and Easter Monday , and for other special occasions too. I have lived in London for many years and this was the first time I had heard them, it was amazing, the sound goes deep inside you. We sat in the sun in Paternoster Square ,near one of my all time favourite statues ,and it was such a lovely and unique experience.
