Driving Dover-South Wales lunch stop suggestions.

We will be driving from Dover to South Wales next Saturday and are looking for somewhere to stop for a pub lunch. We don't want to drive too far from the M4 and ideally somewhere where our boys (aged 5 and 8) could play outside for a bit.

I was thinking of somewhere around Swindon but open to suggestions. We've previously stopped in Brewers Fayre in Chippenham (and once I think something called Wacky Warehouse around there too) as they had indoor soft plays. But I'm now concerned that firstly they are too old for the soft play and secondly worried about Covid and kids not being tested or vaccinated as much in the UK as where we live and germs in general really.

Any tips very welcome. Thanks

Does anyone have any suggestions? Price range any but has to have relaxed ish dress code and not massive posh as we'll have spent all day in the car.

This is quite a good pitstop. You can do as much or as little as you want.

This is a bit earlier but OK and close to the M4. www.hillier.co.uk/garden-centres/newbury/

Coate Water is a good option as it has a play area, miniature railway, cafe and pitch & putt. There’s a nice walk around the lake which takes around 45 minutes at a slow pace and also plenty of other more adventurous and longer routes, with info at the office in the car park. It’s literally 3 minutes form junction 15.
Lydiard House and Park is another option a bit further along at junction 16. It’s geared up for children with a play area, quiz trail through the walled garden and plenty of room to kick a ball. There a cafe and a tea room.
If your dc really love trains or the weather looks like it’s going to be rubbish and you don’t mind a slightly longer detour (about 10mins), then there’s the Great Western Steam Museum which has lot of interactive features including a train driver simulator.

These are all great ideas and exactly what I was looking for. Thanks
