Advice on where to stay in London with 3 kids

Hi, just looking for ideas and advice on where to stay in London.

There will be 2 adults and 3 kids. We would like to see the sights - which do you recommend?

What can we do on an evening?

Looking to go for a long weekend, kids never been so I want them to see the traditional tourist things as well as other things? Zoo? I don’t know, have no idea!

I don’t want to spend a fortune on 3/4 days...

Any advice welcome 😊. Thanks

I would make the most of all the free things there are to do in London with kids. You don't mention ages but ours love the Science museum and Natural History. Entrance is free but you do need to book. Likewise the Tate Modern and V&A can be fun, and if warm the V&A has a lovely outdoor area with fountains that kids run in. The British museum too, pre covid you could get kids backpacks (for free) that would take you to different rooms and have clues and puzzles to solve. We took notebooks and pens round on clipboards with the kids loved. A wander on the South bank, walk across the millennium bridge, visit borough market at London Bridge and say everyone has to try one new food.
Evenings, ours were exhausted from days on their feet so we kept it simple with watching some street entertainment in Covent Garden and dinner in Wagamamas. Mine loved the rainforest cafe, but personally we thought it very expensive for poor quality food.
Remember, again age dependent, but it is possible to do many sites by foot rather than the tube too.
You can spend a fortune easily over a few days, but a little planning ahead and you can really make the most of the capital.

sounds fab - any accommodation recommendations

Unfortunately not my expertise aswe lived in London! But when I was looking recently there were some good prices for around the Waterloo area, from here you can walk all along the South bank, across to Covent Garden and over to St Paul's and the Tate. It depends a bit on how you are getting into London (we now train to Waterloo) and if you need parking

Thank you both so much!!

Lots of great ideas. Kids are twins ds11, dd11 and dd16. Any ideas where to stay that is nice but I don’t need a second mortgage for 😬

I'd go for premier inn/ibis sort of thing. Have a look on booking.com

Most of the small cheap places aren't very nice and I'd spend more on somewhere that you know is going to be clean and safe. Central or near to a tube/station you're coming in from would be perfect.

The South Bank is great as is going to Greenwich and walking through the foot tunnel to millwall. Then you can go to mudchute farm to see the animals (free) and get the docklands railway back to your hotel.

The cable car thing is also good. Not free but not that expensive.

Stay central and walk as much as you can. The Premier Inn in Cov Garden is a great location.

I'd agree with Covent Garden, or KingsX/Euston.
